Default Ruger GP 100 or Smith & Wesson M&P

Was looking at purchasing one or the other, maybe both in time but I was wondering if there is anyone here who owns one or the other that would like to tell me the pros and cons of these models. 357 mag in the Ruger or most likely a .40 in the S&W.

Thanks in advance.

Probably going to be easier to find the smith, ruger products have been kind of scarce lately.

I have the m&p9. Very nice gun. Have not put a whole lot of rounds through it, probably 200 or so. Never have had an issue with it. Amazing how light the frame it with the slide off.
My brother really likes it as well. He is a very good shot with it. Me, I have an issue with pulling low to the right. I am a lefty. This is shooter error and not the gun by any means.
Actually, anyone who has tried it, likes it.

I have both a GP100, and an M&P40 Pro. You simply need to get both.

GP100:
Pros - crazy fun, easy to reload for, inexpensive compared to its competition, crazy fun, and crazy super fun

Cons - Ammo is kinda expensive if you don't reload, hard to find one right now, wheel guns are addictive so it's gonna cost you in the end

M&P40:
Pros - super fun, ammo costs less if you don't reload (than a .357), reliable, fun, fun, and crazy fun

Cons - ammo costs more than 9mm, semi auto pistols are addictive so it will cost you in the end

After reading the responses and checking out the reviews on youtube, I think I'll start out with the S&W in .40 cal. I reload and if I buy bulk ammo the .40 works out to 36cents a shot where as the 9mm is 28cents. 8cents a shot difference won't be a deal breaker, especially when it's factory ammo.

I think I saw a GP100 in the case at Calgary Shooting Centre last weekend. True they do go fast.

I'm a newbie shooter but I love my 6" GP100 so far. First gun I ever shot and it was pretty kind to me. Feels like very high quality and it's fairly accurate. Some have noted, and I agree, that the black front sight is hard to focus on. For that reason I've got a new HiViz sight on order.

The double action trigger isn't as good as S&W. I hear it responds well to a gunsmith or some personal tinkering if you have the aptitude.

Overall I'd recommend it.

Default M&P

I went auto but therein lies your dilemna. A very modern autoloader vs a revolver. My m&p range kit came with a ton of stuff and you get the extra capacity for $600. Smokin deal and lovin it. 600 rds of fun so far. Good guns you have chosen...you will like it either way!
Stay safe

I have the M&P 40 tactical kit and love it! Comes with the gun of course, hip holster, 3 clips and holster for 2, speed loader and nice case to keep it all together in. Shoots great with little recoil

Looking forward to trying it

Was hoping it would be here this week but no such luck.
