Default flyfishing on north Saskatchewan

I've heard flyfishing for goldeye on the Saskatchewan is pretty good, is it safe to wade, where are good access points, don't fancy the river valley but any ideas just outside the city, what patterns for goldeye never even seen one never mind fished for one

Wading is tough - quicksand mud will get ya. Also tough to find a place to back cast but the fishing is good if you are patient and do your leg work.

Google isn't your friend when you are searching an ailment.

15 to 18 years ago one spring or summer I was at river with a fly rod and a bare hook. I couldn't keep them off. So much fun. I haven't focused on them since. But may try this year.

This basically sums it up.
If you fish small streamers like buggers or clousers you will catch a fair share of walleye as well!

Goldeye and mooneye on the fly should be pretty easy. They eat anything day or night. One time I was catching them on a size 10 snelled hook baited with a small piece of orange peel.

There are lots of areas on the NSR that are wade-able but there are lots of areas not suitable too. Wear a PFD. The river valley can be a beautiful place even in the city.

Fishing opens up April 1st on the North Sask River. Does anyone have eyes on it in the Rocky/Nordegg areas? I'm hoping to try my luck before the flow increases

Golden migrate vast distances. I recall they return sometime in may. Look for rising pods of fish.. hawrelek and e Murphy always have some
They are a great fighting fish. Like was said earlier swinging streamers will get you some walleye too. Lots of suckers as well if u like to nymph with a worm. A 5 lb red horse is a heck of a fight!
