Default Athabasca Jasper

Just got back from two days in Jasper. Was able to get out a few times to drown flies. Got skunked but it was nice to get out surrounded by good scenery. Athabasca River and a few others are open for fishing until April 1. Athabasca river mainly ice free from jasper town to beyond Snaring River. Low and clear. Some ice ledges but enough open space. Dropped by Online Sport to determine where to fish. Very helpful.

Thanks for the report... For clarity purposes as of April 1st the following
water is open.

Year Round Zone 1: From Athabasca Falls upstream

April 1 to September 5 and November 1 to April 2 Zone 2: From 12 Mile Bridge (km 22, Hwy 16 East) upstream to Athabasca Falls

The area closed is from the Mile 12 bridge 22 km east of jasper and downstream to the park boundary. It opens June 1st..

So still lot of water to fish in April..

Was there last weekend. Fished about 8 hours on sunday. Fished fort point and down stream a couple kilometers and then went over to where maligne comes in. Had some small fish come in after my fly up near fort point. And fish were rising down by maligne but couldn't get a bite. Going back next weekend to try my luck again. First time fishing jasper and new to fly fishing so it's all a learning experience for me. Found the top of my boots were more of a guideline. Wanted to cross the river due to poor access on the side I was on. Found the shallowest spot near me and still ended up wet to the crotch by the time I was across. Brrrr
