Default Trout ice fishing location

Hey everyone,

I have a friend who is going through a hard time and he mentioned he'd like to go ice fishing for trout. He loves trout and have never been ice fishing. So I'd like it to be a good experience and for him to catch atleast one. Live in st Albert and haven't been out yet this year. Normally I head to chain lake north of Athabasca but that's a little far for us to make a half day trip. In the past I've had bad luck on the mornville trout pond this late in the season (unless this season is different?). Can anyone recommend a good place to catch some trout within a 1-2hr radius?

Thanks a bunch in advance everyone.

-Cardiff park pond
-East Pit lake
-Star lake
-Spring lake

Cardiff Park Pond has uber easy access.

It is made from a collapsed coal mine.

Another thread. Search AOF by lake for quick tips. As for current fishing conditions it will mostly depending upon stocking and luck.

Hi R, I too live in St Albert and am a trout guy searching for ice fishing success. Last year I tried spring lake...a few bites nothing landed, limited access but there is one public access point at the NE corner of the lake, pm for further directions. I also tried Chicakoo ( easy access) once with no success. This year we went to star lake ( easy access) once after hearing of some success, again a few nibbles but nothing landed. Did hear that there are some big released brood stock in there. Might try Star again this weekend although perhaps we should look at pike/walleye lakes such as Lac St Anne, good info on the IFish website...or wait till the rivers open in the spring and get out the fly rod...sk

Carson is a trout lake yes. It’s a Great Lake to fish and if the snows to deep to drive on just park in the campsites and there is a set of stairs that takes you north down to the lake, walk out 100yatds and your in 20fow. That whole shoreline along the breezeway is great fishing. Good luck.

That sounds great! Hopefully my buddy lands his first trout through the ice! Thanks a bunch everyone, your time is greatly appreciated.

Too bad you aren't located closer to Blood Indian. Absolutely guaranteed your buddy catches fish (I'd wager on it), and you have the ability to catch five different species.

X2 for Carson. The lakes you mentioned have been hammered over the fall and winter. I think Carson had 200,000 trout stocked into it last year so there still should be decent fishing at this point in the season.
