Default Turner Valley and Blackdiamond

Considering moving to either of these places. Have a job offer from a golf course not too far from these places.

Visited these two towns a couple of days for the 1st time. I kind of liked them. Seemed like a small town atmosphere, which is different from SW Calgary.

I've lived in Fort McMurray for 18 years.

Does anyone have any opinions or recommendations for these places? I am considering renting for a year before buying.

What are the best places to find rentals? I have looked at rentfaster.ca

I am also open to other suggestions between SW Calgary, Bragg Creek and Okotoks.

Looking for a friendly town, close to hunting and the outdoors.

Default Try Priddis

Try the Priddis general store. There are three apartments on top that rent reasonably. I rented there during school and working EMS out there.

I saw those on Friday. Liked the wood burning fireplaces. Thought rent may have been high for what you got. Its just me and they had 3 bedrooms. The 2 bedroom was rented.

A couple listings under shared accommodation . One on the golf course with garage stall parking space.

Raised my family in Turner Valley-Sons born in Black Diamond Hospital. They are adults now and are grateful to have been raised so close to the mountains and streams

Try Kijiji as well for rentals. Call some local realtors as they sometimes know of some.
I have lived in that area since 1991 and remember when it was much less touristy, especially in the summer. The two towns swarm with bikers from TV through Longview, so bear that in mind when looking for a place, if you prefer less traffic!
Almost all you need is there, and Okotoks is ten minutes east with many big box stores so you can save money. One of the best things is that Black Diamond has a great little hospital, and the medical clinic has some excellent doctors. The clinic is accepting new patients, last I saw.
And of course, the virtually instant access to Kananaskis is fabulous.

Good luck! You will not regret moving out this way!

just an FYI. If buying, Property taxes in BD and Turner Valley are double the rate from what they are in the city (Calgary). That's alot of extra spare change. Maybe no issue if the loot is in your pocket, but I prefer to put that towards my outdoor wilderness experiences rather then having to fork that over.

Have lived I turner valley 40 yrs.
Grew up in Calgary and would never move back.
If was to do again would pick black diamond.
Taxes may be little more than Calgary for comparable houses.
For rentals as above, western wheel newspaper and realtors.

I grew up in Okotoks....totally different now with the population exploding over the last few years. It is now yuppie heaven and I wouldn't want to live there again....all the problems of a city but very few benefits. A lot of my friends have moved to BD and TV and Longview. They are what Okotoks was like growing up....small town atmospehere where you actually trust your neighbors and would let your kids roam around free. BD has a few more amenities but TV is pretty darn peaceful so its up to you what you value more.

I've never lived in either, but I know them both fairly well, and I know a few folks in both towns.

To 'invest' in one or the other (buy property), I'd be far more likely to invest in Black Diamond.
No offence intended, but anyone who lives in either town, will know what I'm talking about.

Really? I have not heard that BD is preferred... Personally, I would choose TV. In BD, Highways 22 and 7 meet at the Only Traffic Light in both towns, and boy, is there a lot of traffic in the summer! There are some nice areas in both, of course, and yes, TV has some long vacant lots on Main Street, plus RBC packed up and moved to Okotoks, but it is smaller, which I like.

I like both Turner and Black Diamond. Still close to the city/airport/etc, but they are nice quaint towns. I've floated the idea of moving there to raise our kids. My wife could work at the hospital and I could get my dream job of being a tour guide at the old gas plant...
