When our original toaster wore out (made perfect toast) we decided to upgrade. Over the years we have spent more and more money on them with the same result: longer to cook and not toasted when done or only toasted on one side. The last addition to the household was around $120, wifey figured the more you spend the better, same results as the others.
My opinion on the matter is this, newer toasters are made to accommodate bagels so they have wide slots, if you can find a regular (thin slot) toaster buy it and I'll bet your problems will be solved. Thats the next one I'm gonna look for.
