There used to be one pretty close to me that had 44' boggers and Chev 350 engine in it. That thing hauled!! It was used specifically for mudding so power to weight ratio was incredible. I wish I could find a picture of the rooster tails.

Here she is. 35"s and lockers front and rear with swift gti swap she goes where u point it with very little effort. 8000rpm red line makes it dance over anything and luv the extremely low impact it leaves in the bush. So light it barely leaves a track with the tires aired down to 8psi

Im a Toyota guy, but that's a sweet rig.
At some point I'm going to put together a bogger and something like yours is high on the list of possibilities.

What did you do for the distributor on the swift GTI 1.3 engine? IIRC they stick straight out of the back of the head and hit the firewall on a Samurai.

Use Mazda 323 cap with some minor mod to the keyways. They come out at a 90 and leaves lots of room. Sammi rotor but Mazda cap

I love sami
I have an '87. Love it. Very little rust. I had to get one after my dad and brother got them a few years back. We all found '87's to own. Each one has its own personality but we love them all. We pretty much all did variations of lift kits and lockers and tires and winches. Put power steering in them all and love that a lot. They are a lot of fun and amaze me still where they go off-road in comfort ( heater and cab). On road not so much comfort haha. Using mine now to teach teenage daughters how to do drive a standard. I really need to figure out how to post pics. Glad there are other people out there that love them still also.

I've been thinking about building a rack like that for my canoe. Looks sweet.
All these picks and talk has me inspired to get mine back up and running. Need to get on the hunt for a motor. The 1.3 swift sounds cool but might be a bit to much to bite off right now. I'm thinking a 1.6 or just a strong running 1.3. Maybe even just try to get the 1.3 I have in there now running right and then get the tracks figured out.

Ive got a 1.6 out of a tracker right now. If and when i require a engine swap im hands down going to do the diesel swap. Find yourself a wreaked older model jetta and you wont be disappointed.

Takes up the whole back seat if i throw the outboard in and by the time you get to the huey its many pulls if its been laying on its side. Yup furthest "boat launch" on the east side. Now if i could leave the motor mounted to the boat and do a high speed classic sami roll over right at the water edge.....

A diesel swap would be cool but I've want to keep it simple and on a budget for now. If you swap out your 1.6 anytime soon and you will part with it I'll buy it for sure.

Samurai
I built a samurai once. 7" suspension lift, 1.6L engine, 33" tires, locking diffs, rock crawling gears, 8500lb winch, even built my own bumper and painted it myself.

If I was to go out and seriously look for a side by side I would search one of these out, daily driver around these parts and go up a trail or two too...save a lot of cash too...great rigs....had one back in the 90's.

Unfortunately mine has been sitting for the last 3 years. I swapped a used 1.3l into it when I rolled a bearing. I've got a timing and/or fuel issue. I had to swap my old distributer onto it and add an electric fuel pump because the used engine doesn't have the cam lobe to run the manual fuel pump.
Hopefully this summer I can figure out a 1.6l swap. I would like to get it set up with a set of quad/SXS tracks and use it for ice fishing.
So if anyone has a 1.6l or good running 1.3l laying around let me know
