Foxing Friday
Went out lamping foxes on Friday night. It is mating time at this time of year in Ireland, so some of the foxes were in pairs. We saw 7 altogether, with most of them being lamp shy.
With snow, hail & a biting wind throughout the night I managed to bag this lovely dog fox, taken at approx 200 yards with 55gr sako ballistic tips. Gun is a howa 1500 .223.

Well done. Wish we could hunt coyotes at night here.

We can use hand or electronic calls; however I generally use my hand & mouth for calling, I can get real good volume & also vary the tone.
This fox had no interest in coming to the call (he had other things on his mind wink wink) so we had to make up some ground on foot.

Nice shot.
How is the reticle contrast at night?
Am also wondering if Ireland or the UK have online hunting communities like we have here in Canada and the US, or is it very difficult to have an Alberta-style celebratory dialogue, due to the antis?

That would be a suppressor, sound moderator maybe required for night time shooting over the pond

Quite right, we call them moderators at this side of the pond. They are not required, but it makes the gun a little quieter & eases the recoil.

It can be difficult sometimes to see the reticle. I am using the nm800 light with a red led, so this restricts my range at night to about 200 yards. The scope is a simmons aetec so it's not the best glass, but I have a zeiss being delivered in the next few days which will help the night shooting.
We have online communities on Facebook and also uk shooting forums which I am part off, but antis are a real pain over here & they are becoming more aggressive in their views & actions.

Thanks about the optics info.
Do your antis ever go so far as to threaten physical violence, or do they try and disrupt hunts?

I have never had anyone threaten me. But on mainland england they are awful; slashing hunters tyres, following them around hunting with a camera trying to provoke them & sometimes resorting to violence.

Nice! What part of Ireland are you in? I spent a month in the North around Port Stewart/Port Rush and Enniskillen about 15 years ago.

I am from the glens of Antrim, a small village called cushendall; about 45 min drive down the coast from Portrush.
Any guys travelling to Ireland in the future give me a shout & I'll try to get you out for a shot while you are here.

Very cool. I was with my friends family at the time. His parents have a place at Aghadowey.
Not sure if I will make it back there but if I do I will look you up!
