I run a small jeep with a hitch mounted rear cargo carrier. Contemplating adding an ebike and roof rack to expand it's capability. The increased fuel economy over the halfton is the number one reason. Cooler, backpac and a game cart are necessities. Always the option of towing a trailer with the quad for expeditions further from the road or those requiring moving large critters from deep in the bush.

Full size truck pulling a Jeep or Small 4X4 suv with a bumper hitch.
If one breaks down, the other will get you home for the tools/parts.
The full size can carry all the camping supplies, outfitter tent, stove, etc.....and of course the moose or elk back home. The small suv gets used like a sxs without the limitations. Plus heat and lockability and even possible to help extricate the full size should it get stuck.

Find a manual transmission suv, build a winch bumper with ears for bolting the tow bar onto. Wire into the tail lights like a trailer for connection to the tow rig.

For a scouting trip, just take the small suv.

Main vehicle breaks down, you have a backup.
