Forgot everything else you have been told.

Go find yourself a good used 7mm-08 rifle.

It will lay down anything you need it to here in Alberta, and it isnt hard on the shoulder.

And go practice as much as you can

Appreciate all the feedback! This is actually what a lot of people have been suggesting so I don’t really need to forget everything haha.

Gonna keep my eyes open for a decent priced used rifle (Tikka, Browning) in 7mm-08 but also considering a 25-06.

My thinking for now is if I can’t find a decent deal on a used good rifle before spring is going for a new Ruger American in 7mm-08 so I have a decent amount of time to get some practice in before next fall.

X2, although I wouldn’t say they are junk I think they are a good youth rifle that they can outgrow and upgrade to their “forever rifle” once they are close to being full grown. For an adult however I’d suggest starting out with your “forever gun”, maybe grab a cheap axis in a smaller caliber for varmint Hunting in the future.

I can’t think of a rifle with better value than the Tikka T3 Lite, one of the smoothest bolt actions on the market and extremely accurate out of the box. As time goes by you can upgrade the trigger guard and bolt shroud for about $200, then you can even look into a carbon fiber stock if your feeling rich one day. I would recommend you get it in stainless though, beleive it or not, stainless steel is actually more slippery than chromoly and you will gain a few FPS with a stainless barrel. At least that’s what I was told by Melvin Forbes.
