The first picture looks like Milton Berle doing early stand up on the Borsct Belt.

translation for the youngins; an ancient american comedian who smoked cigars doing stand up at a series of Jewish Motel Lounges in the Catskills*.

Catskills*,, a low mountain range in the mid-eastern U.S frequented by people from New Jersey and/or Pennsylvania.

But seriously,, the closeup pics are awesome

hey it doesn't even look like your using a leader or anything, how many do you lose compared to how many you land?

ps. nice lookin wally, what side of the city were you on ? I've hooked into pretty much everything but a wally so far this season

Ya can find this one easy in of of his pics of that fish ya can see the power plant if you head out to the park park near the off leash park and walk down ull come to a fenced in emergency shutoff for the pipeline there should be a very easy to access path to the river there fish up and down the bank or you can focus on the outfall i know an older fellow who does just that takes his lab out that way. It can produce some nice walleye

Because Walleye have conical shaped teeth, you don't have to use leaders.

hmm I just always get worried when i don't use leaders, because how can you guarantee that a pike ain't gonna give your jig a lick... and even with the cone shaped teeth I still often find that a leader makes all the difference especially when trollin' or when theres a decent current, saves you hundreds of feet of line and quite a few hooks in the long run because when you get snagged up if you do it properly you can actually bend your hook out of the snag without snapping line while using a leader...[if you get a leader with a nice swivel you can avoid line twist too]

but obviously bestguide doesn't have any trouble so maybe im over thinking things...

Well he could be using fluoro carbon. Or he just likes to risk the loss recently i switched away from steel leaders for a while and have been using fluorocarbon personal preferance but i also have seen alot of pike caught without a leader also ive had some big ones inhale 2 foot leaders and have them roll up a leader good and then get the line in their mouth and snap off. So its kinda like gambling i guess

good call with a fluorocarbon, i took a second look and it may be that he dose use that, i only use that stuff to tie hooks to my pickrel rigs, but hey I've seen a asian guy at whitemud using nothing but a piece of cement brick for a weight... spahgetti noodles for bait and a couple 3 prongs tied right onto his line.... with a bamboo stick for a rod.. no reel.. nothing... pulled in atleast 10 suckers and a decent sized sturgeon...

everybodys got there own gig right?

its so interesting fishing in the nsr all these years have never used a leader there, it seems pike dont bite through your line in the nsr, even the ones up to 20lbs but yet you go to a lake with pike you get bit off everycast haha, all i use is 8lb test, a small black jigs, never ever use any other color jigs anywhere, just black, and yes you can catch suckers, walleye, burbots, and pike using jiggs, have fun

Yeah... pike are notorious for that. I think about 70% of the pike I caught at Wab had the main line wrapped around them.

Lol I may have to switch my whole mainline to floro or steel leader.

I find at Wab lake that it used to be rare for the pike to bite me off. Just this winter though the pike seemed to be cutting me off more frequently until I switched to steel leader. I have a theory too where the big older pike have more wear on their teeth so their teeth are alot duller than the teeth on the hammerhandles IMO. I found that the smaller the pike, the more often I was bitten off.
