Default Edmonton area - where to?

Looking to get on the ice within an hour or two from Edmonton this weekend. Any lakes I can get some trout or perch that have a decent amount of ice right now?

Thanks

Was there last night, only 2 inches of solid clear ice 500 ft from town launch, very sketchy.

6" om mcgregor, watch out near the dam as it's bad ice in some places within 3 feet of the rocks.

Chickakoo lake today. 4 to 5 inches. 1 bite. no fish. 10 fishermen on lake, 1 fish caught. It rained while I was there so the roads are going to be glare ice tomorrow morn.

Went out to check out Jackfish lake today cause I was hauling bales to the field with brother in law just a short distance away. Never got there till around 1. Drilled two holes, one for my son and one for me. Tried multiple things including minnows ect and never managed even a nibble. Just went into the bay to the right of the boat launch. Ice was 6" thick with about 4" of perfect ice and another 2-3 of mediocre ice. Hwy leaving there was worst by far all year lots of ditched peope today I'm sure. I seen 5 just on way back tonight to Edmonton from jackfish I had to take 627 cause semi had locked 770 north to get to yellowhead. Fun day

Just Curious, but why is a post edited by a moderator?

But through his incoherent thoughts, he mentioned the ice was 7" thick

Thumbs up

Hey guys just wanted to drop in a ice report. When I arrived at south end of McGregor lake yesterday the ice measured 8-9" out to 250 yards from shore. I think it must be that thick all the way across because when I showed up there were 3 people skating up and down the middle of the lake. (I love seeing people out on the ice before I get there then I know it is safe haha)

went out phyllis lake yesterday fished the east side about 50 ft from shore in 20fow.. ice was about 7-8inch thick where we punched through however heard from another guy ice was only 1 inch thick out by the island so we stayed put and landed around 10 fish between the both of us..

Well...I went out yesterday on a southern reservoir and the ice was 6.5 inches solid clear ice. Iced five (kinda slow day) and there wasn't a speck of wind...a gorgeous day.

I really wish I was out there right now...

It will be interesting to see how things change after this snow storm that is scheduled to arrive tonight gets here. If a huge insulating layer of snow sits on the ice, I am curious to see how things change considering the deep cold temps coming later this week.

I think we'll be lucky,, super dry cold snow and big wind will move a lot of it off the lakes. Though drifts will make it tougher getting around the lakes.

Did a quick rip to Leduc Reservoir today. There was about 5-6 inches on it. Spent a couple hrs and not even a bite. Haven't heard great things about it anyways

Travers: 3.5-4"
McGregor: 5"

... However, when I was on Travers, I heard some loud cracks in the ice even though I was on 4" of ice... For those with more experience, should I be concerned? or is this normal?

Cracking/moans are actually a good thing, but still manage to get my kidneys in a knot.

Thinking of going there this weekend. Any news would be appreciated. Hoping the cold weather makes ice thickness, for walking, a non issue.

Thanks
