Question Gas:Oil Ratio

I have a Jiffy Legend Model 31 Ice Auger, it's the 3hp model with a 10" auger.
The motor says 24:1 mix, however, the manual calls for a 40:1 mixture. Thus far I have been using the 24:1 mixture. However, I am curious if the leaner mixture might make this motor runner better yet? Ideas? Suggestions?

My father and a friend both have jiffys that they run on 24 to 1 mixtures. They get the job done. My dad has been running his auger for over a decade, likely 1000+ holes per year.

Default 24:1

I go 24:1 with my Jiffy also. No problems and runs well. BEL

Default 24-1

Ijust bought the same auger, and had the same question. If you are using conventional 2 stroke oil 24-1 is required (6ounces of oil to 4litres of fuel). If you use jiffy synthetic, which they recomend in the manual, you can use 40-1 3ounces of oil to 4 litres of fuel. My auger runs smoother with the leaner mixture. The jiffy oil comes in 3ounce bottles and sell for $1.99. I will most likely switch to amsoil or opti-2 they are supposed to be the best. Hope this helps, you can also go to jiffyonice.com for more info.
