I was hoping that Smith would win, but not surprised that he lost. I am surprised that Druh Farrell won though, even though that's not my ward. Lots of people out to vote at my voting station though, which despite the results, is good to see.

She only gets in because too many people go against her and split the vote...she only won by 800 votes this year...she makes me sick.

What an odd thing to say!

Are you implying that a bunch of white people don't like how things have been in the past, so are giving a different perspective a chance? Are you saying a bunch of white people put their interests aside, because they were overcome with a rush of conscience?

Was there some vast conspiracy? Are white people powerless against ..... um....something?

Can you explain your statement further?

He could be referring to nenshi telling people they are racist if they don't vote for him.

The strongest part of Bill Smith's platform was that he owns a rescue dog named Chance. Talk about grabbing at straws.

He has 4 years to repair the holes in his campaign and offer up more credible tax increase numbers.

Past council hates each other with incredible and fierce passion. That will continue with the new council.

The madness continues.

Here is the quote from a 18 year old lady who I respect and love very much

"Good to know that 51.4% of the people we know are idiots"

Loved to see that in my texts this AM.

Sigh... Just keep on keeping on I guess.

This is by far and away the WORST council and mayor we have had. But yet each incumbent got back in and so did our mayor.

Smith had a real shot at beating him but his lack of ideas killed him....

I guess I am out of touch with my city and my Province. I used to be so proud of this place. Now I really don't know. Perhaps I am getting old and not as open to new ideas. Not much of a fan of Alberta, Calgary and all her people.

See deaners post.

That's what white guilt is. "If I don't vote for him I'm racist"

But now, go to cross iron mills in Balzac or Sunridge Mall and the white people are the minority.

I guess you're in for a lot of years of disappointment, regarding politics, then.

It's changing back slowly. To many are comfortable, no need to change. What exactly has the mayor done wrong for Calgary? No the cowboy is not done yet. Resurgence is taking place just south of us.

I'll take immigrants over the white trash in the NE who can barely get themselves out of high school. My dog is better educated than them.

I think I have decided what my long term Municipal election voting pattern will be. Since it seems that in most cases it's a job for life. I will in generally vote against the incumbent. Why, because I am optimistic by nature and I think a politician in fear of their job should do a better job.

I do anticipate the odd time I may like the incumbent and might actually vote for them if the race is close

Many of the people who were born and or grew up in Calgary have left the city as it isn't close to the same city I grew up in. I moved to airdrie around 4 years ago and wouldn't move back, I'm not the only one, the bedroom communities are full of people like me. Albertans have surrendered their cities to peoplle who didn't grow up in Alberta

I am obviously not from here, but even from my point of view Calgary and Alberta have changed a lot in last 8 years and not in the direction I would like it to. I am getting really concerned about next provincial elections. I have a feeling that if it goes wrong - Alberta may be screwed beyond the point of no return.
