Default Bucket list check off

Check color phase bear off my bucket list, got me a nice chocolate boar this evening.....’bout a 5 ‘n a half foot 300 pounder?
I’ve been packing unpunched bear tags around for several years now,not really bear hunting but hoping to tag a nice color phase or a giant black if the opportunity presented itself.Watching some does and a small buck in canola this eve when this fella strolled out.....there’s my color bear, gonna make a nice rug/couldn’t resist!😝
175-ish yard shot in the boiler room with the ol’ meatslayer 30-06 Remi pump, piled him up within 50 yards.🤗

Big ones or colored ones a little extra special. Congrats!

Yea no kidding....like I said, been hoping for a GIANT black or a decent size color phase for some time now, eating bear tags for several years...,probably passed on a couple dozen decent blacks and a couple smallish color bears last few years....not this time.took me about 3 seconds to decide he’s a shooter,ha!😝
Not a monster by any measure, but a pretty decent size color bear with a good pumpkin,I’ll take it. 🙂

Very nice bear, never seen too many five-and-a-half footers 300 Pounders though. 1 bearcamp I worked at we weighed the Bears 1 season it's very surprising how much they really weigh.

Well I was just guessing at the weight(and square size too) but he felt like 700 lbs dragging him out 50yards and loading up on a Gator, haha.
I also guide bear hunters and well aware how hunters almost always overestimate weight,so I guessed 300 instead of 700,lol 😝
Gotta be a solid 250+ anyway?Ive only ever weighed Spring bears so I figgered in a few extra pounds for a fat fall bear?

Awesome bear, I too always carry a bear tag in my pocket, you never know when one will present itself, and the only thing I know for sure is Murphy’s law will taunt you the year you forget to buy one.

Nice bear! The last two bears I’ve seen while fishing out in the foothills have been colour phase. Lately I’ve seen more colour phase then black, saw a real nice big momma bear that was blonde with a black cub strolling behind her.

Nice....I see a lot of color bears around here,I’d guess close to 20% f the bears I see are color phase,chocolates/blondes/reds/cinnamon got em all....next goal is try to collect the whole set,lol
I’m in a no bait unit though so it won’t be easy.
Check off black,black w/white chevron,and now chocolate.....next!!🙃

Congrats on the chocolate bear. Nice size. I like the fact that you weren't hunting over bait when the bear presented itself.

There are a few good sized bears west of the 5th. Not that long ago a gal shot a 6.5 foot jet black bear west of the 5th by Buck mountain. She was in Big Buck magazine with it.

Super bear! Nice choice of rifle as well. I've had the same model 760 for 30 years now, in .270, and it has taken the majority of my animals.

32 years for me with the ol Remi pump,it’s accounted for the majority of my animals as well, probably a reefer van or two full if I added up all the deer/moose/elk/bears/coyotes/grouse it’s shot, lol

So now I’m looking for a bear rug taxidermist, any suggestions?
FWIW,I travel quite regularly between Slave Lake-Calgary so location is not a big concern.
Just an update,I guessed him Friday nite at 5 1/2 footer and put the tape on him skinned out Saturday morn exactly 5’6” nose to tail and 5’4” wingspan.🙃

Yea you know it,the biggest blackie I’ve ever seen was a few years ago north of Hinton up in the Willow.
I was driving along late summer and seen this “grizzly” sitting on his haunches eating berries 100y out in a cutblock so I stopped to get a pic and I’m like “OH...MY....GAWD...that’s a #@&$n BLACK BEAR!!
He was absolutely enormous,600lbs if he was an ounce and a head like a medicine ball!!😳😱
It was pretty close to where I would be elk hunting in another month so I bought my bear tag specifically for him....never did see him again, but I’ve been packing bear tags for 5 years since.
