Default Need help choosing a range finder

Good day all,
Looking at replacing my antique Bushnell yardage pro range finder. I am asking for your help in choosing one. I have read lots of reviews and depending on the site your on, they all come in with satisfactory results. I would like to keep the price below $700.00 if possible.
I was looking at the Leupolds, Nikons and Sig Sauers, but am open to other brands. I would like to know which ones are the most dependable and consistently accurate on animals.
Thanks for your comments.

I have 1600B Leica. Works pretty good furthest I have ranged is just over 1600 yards but it really depends on how reflective the target is.

My Leica Geovids range deer to around 600 yards, elk to around 800 yards and moose at 900 yards in poor conditions, much farther under ideal conditions.

I will also put in my vote for the leicas. The new sig kilo is also a pretty slick unit though I have only used one in a range environment but what I saw was quite impressive.

You will not have that problem with a Leica. I have owned a Leupold 1200i tbr and they are junk, you will be lucky to hit trees at 700-800yrds. I have also had a swaro range finder which had its flaws of being twice the size of the Leica, slower and not as bright. For the money Leicas are hands down the best range finder you can buy. I have the 1600b now

I also use a Leica. Overall it has been good, but I find that it is almost to small and light. I have a hard time ranging deer sized game over 500 yds. I think maybe because I am shaking to much?? I usually take a rest on a tree or fence post but still have problems. This problem has me interested in the new Nikon RF with image stabilization. Don't know if they are released yet or the cost. Wouldn't mind trying a G7 as well.

leica fan here too!

sunshine and bright conditions are the lasers enemy. ranging coyotes on sunny day in the snow is the big test, i still get into the 600's with my crf1600 in those conditions, big game and trees/rocks etc. always lots further

I just seen a really great review on those nikon 3000 image stabilized RF's. They looked pretty amazing. But, I'm no expert in RF. And who knows how they would hold up.

Went to Cabela's to look at the Leica. I tried the 1600 and the 2000, and the funny thing was the 2000 gave different readings than the 1600 by 2-4 yards on targets in the store. I then tried the Nikon at $400 and it was pretty close to the 1600. So how do you know which one is true? 2-4 yards in the store could be much more at 400. What do you think?

Leupold range finders are junk and leica is gold.

Leupold range finder do not have the same reputation as their scopes. When I worked in the optic department lots of leupolds came back. I do not recall a leica ever coming back.

Default I wouldnt test

A scope, binoculars, a spotting scope or a range finder in the store. If they wont accompany you outside go somewhere else.
As covey says we sold a lot of Leicas when I was in optics at WSS and never got a Leica back although many of the other brands were difficult to operate or had problems. Buy once cry once is worth repeating.

I remember selling a leupold range finder to gitrdun. He brought it back the next day saying that it would not range black cows. That type of thing was frequent with leupolds. gitrdun then bought a leica and was happy. As everyone knows it is good when gitrdun is happy

Lieca all the way. Most range finders don't range what the say. These go beyond. I like the size cause it fits in my chest pocket on my coats. As will all range finders change out the batteries every year or when u find it is not ranging the distance it should be. Even if it says the battery is good

Wow, overwhelmingly people are recommending Leica. I'm recommending them too. Mine has ranged targets well beyond its rating many times.
