He obviously had no clue as to the regulations concerning wolves. A hunters first priorities should be seasons, licensing, etc. Why even concern yourself with what to use, if it takes several years to draw a tag, and he did mention a draw.

So what? He can’t ask a question on what a good caliber is unless he knows the regs on wolf hunting?

He can do whatever he wants fella. He can ask all the questions he wants on hunting animals before he decides if he might like to partake in that hunt... and if he decides that he’d like to try that hunt, he can then look into the regulations regarding the hunt he would like to try. His choice man. Maybe after asking his questions he may decide it’s not for him and not need to bother with the regulations of the particular hunt... anyway, I’m done.

If you wanted to get into wolf hunting, what would your first questions be about? Seasons, licenses, or if a several year wait is required to draw a tag, or which cartridge to use? Why even worry about cartridge, if it takes several years to draw a tag, and the OP did mention a draw?

Let's put this to rest as the post says my mind is wondering because I have time on my hands just wondering what wolf hunters use said nothing about going hunting for the or even having an interest in doing so and if I had an interest in it I would look up the reg and find out how to hunt then with a tag or no tag or a draw this post is just a question on what you wolf hunters use but I'm always amazed on how people get so uptight about just a question thought this was a place you could ask questions and get answers when people that are doing it but I guess there are always people that have to make them selves look better then other people it's crazy how these post go this way all the time

If I was getting a dedicated wolf rifle I’d probably get a .243 or something in a 6.5 if I wanted a wolf/deer rifle. In reality like a lot of others have said whatever is in your hands at the time. I have a 223 that’s my go to for dogs. If it’s outside the 223 range then I don’t have much business shooting at it.

It doesn't matter what I am hunting - if I see a wolf it turns into a wolf hunt!

Hey Taz, I have a dedicated varmint rifle I use and it’s chambered in .243. I reload 65 grain v-max at the moment, gonna go with 58 grain after I use up my reloads.

It is sad that this always seems to be the case when a newbie asks a legitimate question before he/she has been to correct gun talk school or without consulting a legal firearm talk lawyer.
These threads are full of people who have a lot of knowledge but it is unfortunate that some of with the most knowledge just have no class.

Yep just crazy how some people are if they have nothing go to say then they should not comment on the post and they should never assume that they know more about the poster then they do and the first thing they should do is read the post and understand what is being asked then comment after that

Hmmm so they’re not 6mm or 7mm? Weird I always thought that they were the same just one was metric.

I do not think that is a requirement for asking a newbie question!
I also think those who have graduated from gun 101 and choose not to speak down to newbies or tell them what order or priority their learning should be are the better teachers.

I will admit that it is nit picky and for no reason and is not even relevant to the op or his question and I do apologize to you all. It does bug me when the caliber and cartridge thing are mixed up and I jumped the gun on it.
