Default Hopewell weirdness

the weird is that i thought that the area was closed to hunting after 2pm. After talking to almost every person there i began to think this was wrong. So anyway i was still skeptical so i tried to phone calgary fish and wildlife and the aca neither of which picked up. So i treid the report a poacher as i was out of ideas. The operator said he figured it was legal but to call the regs guys and double check with them. So i did. After 15 minutes the guy on the phone came to the decsion that it was closed after 2 but that i should get a hold of the aca because depending on how they designated it he may not be right.

Im aware this may not seem like a big deal but as a new hunter this really makes me wary about how question asking goes. So im wondering of anyone else has gone through games of phone tag like this or if they have a way to get a decent asnwer? Regardless i left at two.

It is unlawful to

hunt game birds during an open season for male pheasants within designated pheasant release sites after 2:00 p.m., except Saturdays.

There are three provincially designated release sites. These are the sites designated, I assume by the provincial government, as designated release sites. They have been designated sites for ages, and prior to the ACA taking over the program.

On the release site website and on signs posted at the provincially designated sites themselves they are identified as follows. "... is a provincially designated release property, meaning that there is no hunting after 2 p.m. except on Saturdays." The Hopewell site does not have the same verbage on the website or on the signs posted at the site.

The three provincially designated sites are;

Bigelow http://www.ab-conservation.com/progr...C284DF677D19D1
Buffalo Lake http://www.ab-conservation.com/progr...02D08006E71662
Millicent http://www.ab-conservation.com/progr...7823BA950DF9BF

The remainder of the sites are ACA selected sites, but appear not to be provincially designated, therefore they can be hunted after 2:00pm.

If I am wrong, please correct me, but this is my understanding and it aligns with the previous treatment of the Brooks area sites prior to ACA taking over.

Here is the release site website where you will notice that hopewell and all of those not mentioned above are not marked as provincially designated sites.

nrsmatth is correct -only 3 sites across the Province are considered 'designated' and are subject to the no hunting after 2:00 p.m. except on Saturdays rule. The others are governed simply by the game bird regulations and any other rules specifically related to the Pheasant Release sites.
