I must be getting old, back in the 80s in Fort McMurray, , -30 was a relief, after two weeks below -40. Now -30 actually feels cold.

Yup an extra $100 on the heating bill, but such is life, house set at +24 so nice and warm, both vehicles in the garage, furnace in garage set at +5, it also doubles as a great fridge for storing leftovers during Xmas on the shelf

Be sure to have extra warm clothes, toques, mitts & even socks and a blanket or two in your vehicle, don’t be that person who has a mechanical breakdown or accident when driving from their heated parkade to another heated parkade who didn’t even wear a coat, never mind bring one. A good time to check your emergency kit in the vehicle and be sure it’s well-supplied. Keep your fuel tank topped up. If you have a diesel, be sure you have some anti-gel additive in it.

It’s sure a good time to hunker down and stay cozy if you can.

Check heat tapes and bleeders too if you use them. Found out our heat tape failed last night. Went to wash my hands at 3am and no water. The cold sure exposes weakness!

Yup it's to warm by my standards I like it about 20 but the wife is always cold, when the grandkids are here they are always cold, PO it's always cold in your house so up it goes, I loose that battle, it's perfect in the basement where my chair is and my 65" TV

Minus Eight here today with a lot of snow.

Have to keep switching out the Hummingbird Feeders every four hours due to freezing up.

And the little buggers are ALL OVER the feeders today!
Damn near glued to them in fact!

Merry Winter!

I know what you mean. I remember one night up in the arctic it was -50 and a wind at least 30 mph. Gusting close to 50. Nothing as cold as an arctic wind. Now that was cold staying in a sleigh camp at Shells Camp Farewell.
Don't know if I could do that now. -30 is enough

Frozen seats in the car like sitting on a wooden bench at the bus stop and flat spotted tires rolling down the road like the Flintstones. I miss the 80's in Fort McMurray.

Just came off a local lake a couple of hours ago. Big Buddy eventually froze up and then the Little Buddy wasn't having any of it either. It is dangerously cold out folks.

Yes it is cold in GP. My dogs don't seem very keen about going out to pee. Weaklings.

Drove from Peace River to Calgary today (left at 13:30-ish, arrived at 22:30-ish; travelling with kids). In the vehicle the numbers only changed a few times from -30 the whole way: first time in Edmonton to -29 and then -28, then back to -29 and -30; the second time in Calgary to -29 and then back to -30. She didn’t want to discriminate between the north and south today, lol. Of course in Peace River it kept dropping or so the forecast says (and my cousin):

I actually don't find it that cold until it drops below 40 and wind picks up even a bit (not a fan (lightly speaking) of wind in any season). As long as a guy can move around a bit. A nice walk is very refreshing now and then. Often times -15 feels much worse, imo, especially when it is a bit humid and windy. Walking around at -35 and lower while snowing can feel a bit like face acupuncture.

The River has been boiling for a few days in a row now:

We are having a better time of it here in Edmonton. Only -32 on the deck here this morning, and a light breeze of about 5 K, just enough to flutter the flag. That is cold enough but a lot better than -42 further north. Sure glad I can park the vehicles in a heated garage, WAY nicer when you have to go somewhere.

Coldest spot in Canada right now is Hendrickson Creek Alberta, between Hinton and Grande Cache on highway 40, at -44.2 C

We are only -30 right now, wind NW @ 13km feels like -41 looks like we will get a little break for a couple days on the coming weekend then back into the deep freeze.

I drove from Saskatoon to Camrose yesterday, -28 pretty much all the way, but the main highways were great, pretty much clear and no ice. Yet three vehicles ended up in the ditch, one minivan managed to hit a pickup, and I met five emergency vehicles just after passing the scene. The secondary highways did have some snow, and the ditches were so drifted in, that if you hit the ditch, it wasn't going to be easy to get out. A friend came across a couple that had spent the previous night in their vehicle in the ditch, and he gave them a ride, as there was no way his pickup would have been able to pull out their vehicle.

-37C in DV this morning.

We have a hockey player flying in from Wisconsin this evening, he left his SUV here over the holidays, no block heater(yikes) the wife an I have some running around to do today, so if his SUV will start I’ll give it a treat in the garage, if it won’t start(it did yesterday) it’ll be a circus with a Coleman stove and a canvas tarp I guess.

Was looking at the weather map, you guys are in a real nasty cold pocket, along with Edson, Chip lake etc.

I have done the tarp and Herman Nelson, Coleman stove thing in the past, my suggestion is it would be way easier to hit Canadian Tire and just buy a magnetic block heater or a recirculating one to cut into the coolant lines and put a charger on the battery. It is going to stay this cold for a while, he is going to need some form of block heater if he is parking outside. Hope you get lucky and it starts for you. Man this weather is hard on equipment.
