Default Jim Shockeys stolen shotgun returned

Anyone else not surprised the RCMP lied through their teeth?

From his Facebook.

“This will be a long one.

MY FATHER’S STOLEN SHOTGUN HAS BEEN RETURNED!

Back in January of 2016, thieves broke into our family ranch house in Saskatchewan and stole the 1000-pound gun safe that contained my deceased father’s personal hunting firearms.

Here is where the story starts to get strange. The safe was subsequently found, cut open and with all the contents gone, 30 miles away, on land that was, by total coincidence, owned by relatives of ours!

Now here is the “rest” of the story I wasn’t allowed to talk about until now.

Several weeks after the safe was stolen, RCMP officers stopped a vehicle and found dad’s vintage Giuseppe Tonolini Italian side-by-side shotgun in the car. They arrested and charged the three people (two men and a woman) who were in possession of my father’s firearm.

Of the three, one is still in jail. One has since died, the woman I believe, and the third of the thieves never showed up for the court date and is still at large.

I thought my father’s shotgun would be returned after it had been used for evidence in the trial of the bad guys, but it was not returned. Instead, I was informed that the bad guys sawed the barrels off, making it a “prohibited” weapon.

I was sick about it, but there was nothing I could do about it, so I accepted for years that the shotgun being sawed off was the end of a very sad story.

But it wasn’t the end of the story, and the barrels were NOT sawed off!

After all these years, without the need to hold the firearm for evidence any longer, it has been returned to me. (Thank you and respect to the person who cared and helped.)

Honestly, it was the one gun I felt most sad about losing. My father and I would go hunting sharp-tailed grouse “chickens” in the fall, and this was “our” shotgun.

I have so many deep and fond memories of those glorious days afield, walking miles, side by side with my father, my hero, carrying our beautiful old side-by-side shotgun.

Holding this worn old friend, I can literally feel the warm October sun on my face right now…and my father’s comforting presence…❤️🥲”

Someone brought that up, to which Jim responded:

I don’t believe that. I believe it was a simple misunderstanding. My fathers shotgun was disassembled and put in a short box. So I think the official in charge simply assumed it has been sawed off.

so the police think the thieves took the time to saw of the barrel and then file it down to make it look like a factory end.

I think Jim is just being polite. I think they didn’t want the gun returned. Wouldn’t be the first time they lied through their teeth.

No one said the RCMP were intelligent.

Does law enforcement even know what a firearm is or do they just carry them for decorations?

The RCMP are supposed to be the firearms experts, they are in charge of the classification system. So to claim that they thought that the shotgun was sawed off, is at best , a feeble excuse.

Default Sawed off?

My shotgun was stolen, police called a few months later to say found but sawed off so wouldn't be getting it back. It had only 24" barrels. Hmmm....

I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding like the High River gun seizures the RCMP orchestrated......

My parents place a gun safe got stolen about 12 years ago.
They said they found a shot gun and said the same thing. It was defender shot gun I didn’t think there was any barel to cut.
Over the years two other guns have been found and returned in bad condition

I would bet that someone in the RCMP fell in love with that shotgun and was hoping to make it disappear.
