I grew up in AWA and International wrestling territories. Seen a lot of great matches at the Sudbury arena when I was a kid.
All time fave Piper
Greatest heel ever Piper
Greatest promo Macho Man
Greatest wrestler Flare
Most technical Brett Hart and Mr Perfect
Greatest hardcore Bruiser Brody
Greatest tag team Bruiser and Stan Hansen, LOD
Most cutting edge and most who moved the sport ahead Dynamite Kid
Greatest valet Precious and Ms Elizabeth

I remember when Dynamite Kid showed up in my territory one Sunday morning, I never seen anyone like that before. Absolute legend.

A few burned in the memory:

-Leo Burke (and his bro Bobbie)
-Don Gagne *da republik of kabec)
-Bad News Allen (lived across the alley from me when I first moved to Calgary...had a huge mother watchdog)
-Hercules Ayallah
-KY Wakamatsu (the best promoter name ever) and JR Foley
-A myriad of midget wrestlers (could you imagine trying something like that today)
-Eugene Kiniski (wrestling technician, came out with a mortar board on his head)

I never attended (too young) but I have been told older members of the crowd would literally lose their mind weekly

Jerry Blackwell.
I was
front row in about 1978ish.

I yelled to him that he looked like a blown up woodtick(he did)
He walked over to the ropes and spit on me. Lol.

This post is so funny. Where we lived stampede wrestling was on cbc TV on Monday nights at 11pm. My mother was nuts over this stuff. As a kid trying to sleep in the basement while she was upstairs and stomped and yelled at the wrestlers on TV. Lol. Here favorites were the hart crowd for sure. I slept thru a lot of Tuesday morning classes as a result of that show

Went to see Stampede in GP when I was about 10 or 11 and went to get an autograph from Chris Benoit. I was the last kid in line and when it was my turn he said "no more" and walked towards the dressing room. I was so mad I called him an A-hole before he went through the door, he looked at me, then the security guard who kinda shrugged like "hey you deserved it", then came back and singed a picture for me...lol

The one and only Hacksaw Jim Duggan. My brother and I had all the wrestling figurines and the ring with the cage attachment for the cage match. Those toys got put to great use.

Al Oeming sold his shares in Stampede Wrestling to bankroll his game farm.

Al gave Stu Hart my phone number when he realized i lived in Wildwood and Stu would call and invite me to a match in his ring in his basement-an offer I never took him up on. lol.

Unfortunately, he suffered from a developmental disease and died fairly young.

Hamilton Tiger Cats if I remember right.

I met him at Grey Cup in 95 and in 97.

I think he passed a year or two ago from Alzheimers disease.

Wasn’t it Mosca that got flowers at an interview and gave the guy a cane beating?

Those are names I remember! Angela Mosca, oh dang I can't pull out more names.... Grew up watching in Winnipeg. Chief Mivia (sp?) ... a Hawaiian chief in any case

I remember dad taking my brother and I to the Winnipeg arena to see it. There were a couple of young guys (older than my brother and I by a long shot) using binoculars to find chicks in the crowd. One guy would direct his buddy on where to find one and I could see dad surreptitiously having a peek too lol.

So many from the Stampede Wrestling days.

Foley, Hercules Ayella, Jason the Terrible, Flyin Brian Pillman, Dan Kroffat, Cuban Assassin, Mike Shaw (Mukham Sighn, Bastion Booger) Dynamite Kid, Beef Wellington, all the Hart Boys.

Ed Whalen was the best announcer/interviewer.

My wife and I took my grandfather to the Stu Hart 80th Birthday celebration at the old barn. Lots of old Stampede guys and a lot of WWE guys there. Still a youtube video of it that you can see us when Owen Hart was fighting Razor Ramon. This was in the '90s. Great night all around as my grandfather was a very serious wrestling fan.

Duke Myers and Kerry Brown, Cuban Assassin, Honky Tonk Wayne was what they first called him when they showed up. You tube Honky Tonk man, he does a wicked interview talking about the old stampede wrasslin days and Stu Hart and the boys back in the good old days. Honky Tonk is a pretty sharp dude he does a good interview.

I remember screaming at the TV screen as one of the "bad guys" distracted the ref and while his back was turned "the good guy hero" was getting beat down by a couple bad guys ganging up on him.

When I was a kid we would have wrestling in the backyard, and it was fun, until someone got a bleeding nose and started crying. All the neighborhood Moms would come out and yell at us. lol. I'm pretty sure MMA was invented in my neighborhood.
