Default A proud husband, WT Buck # 2 for the missus

I'm a pretty proud husband this morning. Last night my lovely wife and i sat in our ground blind on the edge of a nice oat field known for producing good whitetails (my buddy shot a 163 there last week). The day as a whole was pretty quiet, spotted a couple of does in the morning, and nothing came out for my wife, who is 14 weeks pregnant and got to sit on point for all the pushes.

Then evening rolled around, and from past experience i knew we would get action of some sort. With 20 minutes of light left, noting had made an appearance, and she was getting antsy. I asked her for the time, then told her that they would show in 5 minutes (a false confidence BS move). Well, the deer helped keep my promise, and a smaller buck broke the treeline almost exactly 5 minutes later. We watched him for a bit, and she said he was about the same size as last years, and a touch too small. Right after that, a bigger buck stepped out, and was about 350 yards out. We watched him through binos for a couple of minutes as he worked his way towards us, until he forced her to decide. The buck made a move like he was going to head behind the trees we were using as cover, this would eliminate any shot opportunity we had. Fortunately he stood broadside while he decided.

The Missus fired once with her Mod 7 in 260 and this buck swallowed up a 120 gr TSX and dropped hard, the shot was about 250 yards, making this my wifes biggest buck and longest shot to date. Now she is hunting coyotes while i go after my whitetail.

Nice buck for sure....but I dunno if it's just me. I like the fact that the wife stays home when I go hunting with the boys. But I don't like to hear about not spending time with her, so i guess it's all good one way or another.

Let me say this and this only to your comment having trained a few gf's into hunters now. The gf/wife can be your best and/or worst hunting partners ever.

Have fun out there.
