Unless it gets REALLY warm for a LONG period of time, we'll be looking at May long weekend before the lakes are ice-free. On the bright side, the water may be frigid enough to cut down on ski boat traffic.

We should bring all the cows from Calgary feed them beans and let them run around fav lake , hopefully the methane would speed up the melting process , maybe let David Suzuki ride the lead cow

Haaaaaaaaaaaaa Pigeon lake last may long still had ice , the day before and there's probably a good 5 to 10 inches more this year . Ive noticed some of the ponds with today's wind and heat really melting the snow on top of the ice . Also Last night when I was on my way home from Edmonton along Manning freeway near the Hindu temple there , across behind Alberta hospital that large pond in and behind appeared to have lots of water not sure if it was open or just water atop the ice . My open water senses are tingling .

Haha. Fair enough buddy. Just curious. I gaurantee some new weight forward line on your fly rod would improve your casting immensely. You should be able to get at least 35 feet out of er then... Just kidding dude. You'll love it when you get in to it. Buy some fast sink line for it and I'll PM ya some tricks on catching walleye on the fly. It's a blast.

Well after all it's not loooking that bad ,
Went to Hasse this afternoon to check the ice condition, to my surprise there was about 35 ft of open water, the ice had shifted and ripped the floating dock right off, so I tried my luck casting a fly from the boat launch short dock, after about 30 minutes of casting I got a hit and then on and on, damn it was a blast, overall caught 6 last year stockers.
Fishing early spring is so much fricken fun

I call this one APRIL FOOLS

Cheers !

I would be VERY surprised if you couldn't launch it by then (it may be open already for all I know), assuming you're talking about the townsite, not the Seba end.

Stopped by Wabby this morning. Just a small section of ice blocking the boat launch in town and ice farther out and around the point. Be surprised if in a week or two it was not opened up quite a bit if we keep the decent temperatures.

Default Hasse Sat April 18

Can't take it any longer. Am taking the pontoon or canoe to Hasse Sat if it is above zero. Morph reports some liquid ice and some fish. Anyone want to join in? We could do a shore meal and tell some lies.

Man don't head out that way, I was just kidding,
but who knows about this coming weekend, maybe the ice will be gone.
Those pics were from April 26 last year

I went to hasse today (thu) and its clean around the edges about 2 feet out but then its fairly thick rotten ice otherwise. Did fish through a hole at the dock and lost some bait probably to itty perch. Bah I never caught anything ice fishing in my life. Bring on the summer!

I flew out of springbank airport to Red Deer and back today. Didn't get over Dickson, but most of the small pothole sloughs are fairly wide open. I'm guessing ice is rapidly going on most of the other larger lakes around.

did anyone have a look at the Hermitage Park yet?,
I wonder if those beauties would survive the winter...
I think the first pothole lakes that will be ice free are the ones that are not surronded by trees...
Im heading out this weekend to my personal Honey Hole - Ice Free
Watch out rainbows here I come !!

Beaumaris looked like this yesterday, though its just a run off pool. Might give some ideas on how things are melting.
