Straight or angled spotting scope
Looking to get a new spotting scope and was wondering what people think is better?

I prefer angled. It took a while for me to get used to mine, but now I wouldn't have another straight spotter.

angled is easier to look through in the prone position and if you want to carry a smaller tripod

Depends what your using it for? If your looking mostly up hill than angled is much better. If your looking down hill straight is better. It's all preference both have advantages and disadvantages.

I've had both and angled all the way. Way easier on the neck and far more comfortable for long glassing sessions.
If you glass from your truck often, using a window mount, then straight is better.

I prefer straight but a guy really needs to own both to decide what he prefers. Trying it out on the store for 2 minutes wont tell you much.
Trying out friends scopes of both varieties in actual field positions is your best bet.

If you tilt the angled spotters does it make it pretty easy to use one a window mount?

I have only used mine once in the mount and found it to be a bit of a pain. Use it enough and you will get used to it.

They work well on the window once you get accustomed to aiming it accurately.
Your neck will appreciate the angled model more too.

Angled for the range, straight for the field.

I prefer angled for a few reasons. In the beginning I had issues aiming it but I wouldn't consider going back to a straight one now.

I prefer a straight for long range shooting or spotting antelope from the pick up.

Not sure if all angled scopes have this option but, the vortex diamond back,
20x60x80mm I was looking at recently, has a knob so the viewer can rotate the eye piece. this I'm sure comes in handy. definitely something to consider

Yup. Most of us just got back from the angled parade.

Straight scope is easier to pack, one reason I dumped my angled.
