Chain Lakes Reservoir
Got the kids out to Chain Lakes Reservoir for their first ice fishing trip. They loved it and are looking forward to many more.

Hasn't changed much over the last few weeks. A lot of snow. Use caution

Great video! I’m taking my 4 year old down there tomorrow hoping for some luck. At least get 1 fish in his hand would make his day this will be his first ice fishing trip, but I’ve taken his older brother a few times before so I’ll have all the gear to keep him busy lol

Hey folks,
Can someone please provide a link that lays out the fishing regulations for Chain Lakes Reservoir (ie. the body of water west of Claresholm along Highway 22).
I've been Googling and reviewing the regulations PDF for ES1 (where this body of water exists in) but I cannot say I've found Chain Lakes Reservoir.
Hoping to take the family out ice fishing soon.
Thank you.

trout stocking
See Page 16 in the regulations under Put and Take trout stocking. It is listed under the ES1 zone.
It is considered a put and take trout stocked lake.
5 trout any size

That little creek only runs from Chain just North of you a little. Seems to be a good spot though.

Awesome.
Funny how you stare at that PDF so long but the answer is there in plain sight once a clarification is made.
I appreciate the help folks. Thanks!

So many going out and asking questions but few reporting back on results, ice thickness, snow cover ect.
I may go out tomorrow and will report back. If you have been out recently would appreciate a report. Haven't been on ice in years and never driven on a lake so any reports appreciated.

Lots of trucks there last weekend. Large snow drifts in places though, use caution

I have always taken 540 between high river and nanton. What is that road like? Espesially in winter.

540 is still the best route to take. Nice and flat and very little traffic to deal with.

Only other thing to be aware of is there are bull trout that all must be released and occasional rocky white fish 5 over 30cm

So went out on Sunday. Did not land any but lots of bites. This is my first time ice fishing in about 15 years.
Some trucks out on the ice but lots also left them on shore. About 80% walk on and rest drive. Ice was about 14 inches where I was fishing. Water was about 15feet. Just estimate don't have and equipement. Only a little snow in spots mostly blown off.
Set up south of boat ramp sort of between the two parking lots. A little further out then my longest cast from shore usually is.
I drove out (first time ever on a lake) which was fun and nerve racking. At first I set up to close to "road" most drive on. As big trucks drove by ice would crack and creak and could feel the vibrations. Moved out further away from road later. One bozo decided to drive right between my truck and nearby tent. As I gave him a death stare he just waved back heard a loud crack by my truck looked over and SAW a crack at my tire heave and little chipps of ice fly off it. Every crack I heard after that made me jumpy lol.
Think Ice was safe as saw many larger diesels truck go out. I enjoyed the experience and would try again. I set up in line with a few tents but found out later they also had not ice fished in years. One tent beside me said the fish biting were very small and hard to hook.
To others driving out for first time dive very slow. You create waves that weaken ice and keep your distance from other truck.
