Well, for as many times as I've heard about it, it finally happened to me.
While out fishing today, I hooked into what felt like a very small pike. We'd been catching a few of these little guys all around the same size, so I knew what to expect. Then suddenly it got a lot heavier, and felt more like dead weight, so I figured that it nosedived into the weeds. So i winched it in...I could feel the occasional shake, so I knew the fish was still on. Just when it got close enough that I could see what was going on, I saw that I actually had a pretty good pike on there! Then it gave a good shake, and took off...and I realized that I still had a little pike on my hook. As I was reeling the poor little guy in we could see the larger one following, and right near the boat the larger pike tried to take the little guy again. Clamped down on him and gave a few shakes before taking off for a second time.
I took a couple pics of the unfortunate victim...his back was pretty beat up too, but I wanted to get him back in the water ASAP...he went screamin' away as soon as I got him back in the water, but I don't like his odds of making it.
The first one is a tear in his belly, and the second shows all the skin peeled back on the lower jaw.
