Just left Cold lake. 10 inches clear ice, some cracks, very wind chilly I was the third one to drive across from the provincial park. the trout still fight well, but release them quick as the eyes could freeze very fast in this temp. My family and I will be eating a nice fillet for supper. be careful of the ice cracks and heaves. Fisher Gord

Fisher Gord, where were you fishing, in the bay or did you venture out in the main lake area? My diesel is still to heavy to head out on the lake in 10 inches of ice, looking at trying Cold Lake in the morning, probably on the quad from my house, completely skunked at Tucker "again", close to 2 feet of ice though, has the snow blown off in spots? Thanks in advance

Tyee, let us know how you make out and how much ice there is. I want to head out there even if we have to snowmobile out.

Fished Cold Lake today, good 12 inches of solid black ice, 2-3 inches of snow on top.Few cracks, 2 inches wide and heavy heave ice in spots.Fished in 95 feet of water, C/R 2 lakers 8 lb range, COLD with the wind.Few trucks on the ice, seen sled and quad tracks everywhere, no worry about burning out a set of sliders on a sled, more than enough snow for cooling.Cheers

Have not been out on Slave yet, usually don't get too excited until after the new year.

However i did hear that a truck broke through the ice in 10ft of water near the assineau bay yesterday(that is just west of canyon creek) BE CAREFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just heard of a 3 foot gap in the ice going out from the provincial park in Cold Lake. Guys are driving way to fast and apparently a spot has opened up.. No 100% confirmation yet but keep you eyes open and windows open

Tyee,

A friend and I are going to be fishing Cold Lake first week of Feb. I have open-water fished it with a guide a few years ago but have never ice-fished it.

I'm not looking for any secret spots but can you tell me generally where I would start for Lakers? I know we're going to be fishing deep.

Heard today of guy's fishing out by Joussard, that is where that red ford went down, in which i think most have seen by now. Heard they were coming back and the ice separated at least 5 feet wide for a long stretch.
