Default Ruger M77 mark 2

Hey guys

i work with a guy who shoots the Ruger 77 mark 2 and is having problems with his gun jamming with certain types of ammo just wondering what he should use for bullets?

i told him to switch to a browning but he would not listen

I think some sort of discription as to the malfunctions nature might help get a few answers.

it catches right at the base of the shell right where the belt is he cant get the action open after he fires it unless he really reefs on it hopefully this helps

I had a box of PMC loads (that someone at the store had switched into a box of hornady bullets by accident or otherwise) that would not eject properly out of my mark II. For some reason the claw would not grab them properly. That was the only time it ever happened though so I put it down to the cheap amo. Your saying he has trouble getting the bolt open?

I have a Ruger M77 Mk II "Target" in .204, I've used nothing but factory Hornady ammo with no problems. Now having said that, I took all that once fired brass and did my own homeloads. Absolutely no trouble with cycling at all.

If it was my friend I'd tell him to take the rifle to a gunsmith to get the problem checked out.

As far as I know all mark II were a mauser style action. And I'm pretty sure the old ones were not push feed either since the mod 77 has always pretty much been a well made mod 70 rip off (and I mean this in the most positive way possible). X2 on getting that gun checked out cause I've never heard of anyone having those kinds of problem with a 77.

for sure best advise is to get a professional to look at it (gunsmith)...
had a friend who had a different make and had same result ( hard bolt lift)
it would eject easy if we lubed the brass just in front of the belt. when ejected there was long scratch marks on the brass,,, only thing we could come up with was the previous owner didnt use a bore guide to clean it...

At first i thought the brass was left behind in the chamber when extracting
hence the push feed ,CRF thing. But to really tell, u have to strip one out of the magazine half way and see if the bolt grabs it to be a true CRF...

Just don't send it to Rugers warranty repair shop or it could end up looking like this.....

The good news is they replaced it with a new one ,only took 5 months but got a new one out of the deal, sent the broken one in a plastic hard case as well as boxed in cardboard, told them I want my new one shipped the same way so this one came in one piece!...
