Default The hawk stole my bird!!!

I was out hunting today and downed this brown duck with my 20 gauge.I think it was a gadwall.it landed only about 20 yards away from me in the water.as I was standing there reloading my shot gun,a hawk came out of no where and plucked my duck from me(lol).I did'nt know what to do,except laugh.he later landed 200 yards away and another hawk joined him for the meal.I never did go after the hawk and my duck.Is that breaking the law ,not trying to recover your game???

I've always wondered about that. I see them flying around me all the time when I'm hunting ducks. Never thought they'd actually grab it though!!!!!!!

Funny you should mention this. A couple weeks ago while on a decoy shoot for geese we had a hawk swoop in and try to pick up a goose. Of course it was a failed attempt for the hawk. No way he was going to pick up a 11 pound goose.
I remember loosing a duck on a pond shoot to an owl once. Same thing, in came an owl and away he went with the duck.

when i was at my first college getting a degree i was involved with some bird banding for saw whet owls...cute little buggers...

anyways on my first night i was so excited to have banded and measured my first owl that i went out of the little shack in the woods and tossed it up intot he air to let it fly off in peace...big mistake.....

out of nowhere a huge owl swooped out of the trees and snatched him right out of the air....uuughhh...my professor shone his light up in the trees and you could see 6 or 7 owls in the trees just waiting for these little guys.

you had to take them and place them in low branches in heavy cover and then let them escape on their own..was pretty cool though.

My brother and a friend were hunting ducks on the ice once late in the year. When they dropped a duck on the ice a snowy owl would come and steal it. The owl eventually had a pile of 5 or 6 ducks he was guarding. They had to go scare the owl away to reclaim their ducks.

The odd time you hear of falconary hunters losing one of their birds, Perhaps that's what happens to that snowy. I mean don't preditory birds eat their kills right away , and falconary birds aren't they trained just to retrieve and wait for a reward??

I used to hunt the NSR just out of edmonton and every time we would go 2 bald eagles would always show up when they heard the shooting. One time a duck landed a little to far out to get but that was no probelm cause one of the eagles swooped down and grabed it. I guess they like duck as much as me. lol

A buddy of mine was hunting on a Lake Simcoe marsh and had a gigantic pike repeatedly attack a decoy... that would have been cool to see! I had a cow eat a turkey decoy once, but that was more comical than exciting.

Two weeks ago I was hunting partridge and walked a row of trees(one of my honey holes). A covy got up and I dropped one in front of me and the other on the far side of the trees. As I picked up the one that dropped in front, I noticed an owl flying overtop of me with a partridge in his talons!! He got my other bird!!
