Default cold lake access road

Went to Cold lake for the first time last weekend and had a productive day. Landed 15 lakers between 2 of us and now I'm hooked.

Wanted to try a different spot next weekend at Garnet Beach but I'm not sure how to access that point. I checked google maps and there doesn't seem to be a road/trail that you can drive on from the land side. Is the only way to get there by driving your vehicle across the lake from the provincial park?

Pics related.

A life time ago we would drive in the winter to Garnet from French Bay. I believe Garnet Beach is the far east shore before you go around the point out of French Bay.

Thanks. I know where it is. I just don't know if you can only get there via driving on the lakes or if there is a road that can take you do the point from the land side.

There were lots of trucks driving on the ice last weekend and the ice thickness was pretty consistent from where we drilled. But I'm not sure if there are springs or hot spots between the southern shoreline access road to Garnet Bay I guess was my question.

There never was a land trail that I am aware of. Like I said that was back before I left Cold Lake in '86.

Drive on the ice but just be careful got some ice heaves, snow and wind so they will blend in now.

Ohhh and no springs or high flowing spots to be concerned about.

Just practice safe ice travel as it changes often when setting up.

Normally the ice is thinner around the mouth of french bay .
About 5 years ago it was around 2 ft thick in front of the Provincial boat launch about 1000 yards out and I took my ATV to french bay between the two points and it was only 6 inch thick . Coming back i had two f150 heading towards me . Had a hard time telling them to turn around ,they just did not believe me until they got out and cut a hole .
