2009 Moose
Despite gale force winds and rain and half the hunting time (for calling moose) lost due to bad weather, the 2009 moose hunting trip was another success.
I bumped a beauty P&Y bull on my scouting trip in the afternooon - almost had a the arrow nocked and about to draw when he got my wind and bolted! Never saw him again.
Of course during the day, 22 inch brook trout are always fun:
The picture below was the hot spot this year, with lots of bull thrashings, rut pits and tracks. It also shows the trail I shot the moose on ... the well beaten path along the shore. I shot it from accross the water in a ground blind.
I actually called in a bull to within range here on the nicest night we had for calling, but unfortunately it was too dark to make a shot. Kinda neat watching him search for the cow and splash in the water. He actually tried to step into the canoe ... funny stuff. He didn't know what to do with the canoe.
In the end, the stars aligned and a cow and calf came on by while we were waiting for the wind to calm in the evening. A nice 30 meter double lung shot passthrough was all it took. Found the arrow in less than 5 seconds, thanks to the glowing red/pinkish color (Thanks Trav for the tip on those Breast Cancer Victory Pink Arrows) The moose went 60 meters and expired quickly ... cow walked off soon enough. We processed and packed it into the boat in less than 1 hour 15 minutes. After that it was back to the cabin for a pop or 2 and a nice hot suana.
That's some fine eating!
Only 10 more tags to go.
Nice head lamp ... I know! Those were the only pictures I didn't double check in the field.

I agree
some guys come into the shop and ask for arrows and when you mention the pink ones they all laugh and make jokes at them. Shows who is the real men when they walk out and have the pink arrows in tow with them. Pink is just another color and so many guys get so uptight about it. Breast cancer is a big deal with everyone men and women and if they make fun of the arrows obviously they dont have a clue about it. I know the guys were having fun in the thread and no harm is meant by it, but some are dead serious about the pink arrows not man enough to shoot them.

Can't quite figure this one out! Thanks anyway, getting a nickname is an honor.
Let me when you need company in the CGY bowzone double bull blind of yours - that's if pink arrows are allowed.
