Default How many of us have heard this

How many of us have heard this one?
Honey, you need to shave your beard hurts
I have.
Not complaining about it.
How many of us have heard it while camping and there's no access to hot water?
some may say just make some first. well if you can't waste water just for a shave or would you boil some just for a shave? this is for when you have a limited supply of water. this is for those who want or need a quick shave.

For those who want to shave and for those who need to shave cuz of happy wife happy life. Have no fear, there is a trick that some may not know.
I went camping with my family one year, and the place I went to had ran out of hot water. Yes, I camp at both, at a serviced place and backcountry camping.
I remember back to my time in the Military when I was out for winter training deployment, we were in Manitoba out in -40 C. We had to shave every morning, due to the cold and lack of hot water we had to shave without water. ouch!
We were told that hair conditioner works great and it barely freezes. So out comes the hair conditioner, and it works, no more dry shaving for me. I recommend to use a cheap kind and not the special kind that your wife or girlfriend buys for her hair. She might not like it.
I now make sure include a small bottle of hair conditioner in with my bathroom stuff when I go camping because when you can't use hot water its the next best thing.
oh yeah make you in include a disposable razor for it tends to gum up after use.
just try it once, when you need to shave at home, you might not be disappointed.

just food for the old noggin,

Viking caliber

Electric shaver last me about 2-4 weeks before it needs recharged, that's shaving once daily.

They make shaving lotions too, they don't freeze and you can still keep your dignity

That's a good tip , the conditioner thing.
I'm a shaver and if I need it , I'll do it if I'm out camping that long.

I was in a Provincial Park for a week years ago. In the middle of the week I wanted to shave , so I boiled a cup of water, took out my signal mirror and went at it.
At the site across from me was this grizzled old timer ( I'm becoming one too ,lol. ) and I overheard him mumbling to his wife while I caught him out of the corner of my eye ; " Imagine that " He says. " Out in the woods and the guy feels the need to shave."

I thought it kind of funny , seeing he had a beard and didn't need to shave , but me just wanting to clean-up a bit. Being in the woods doesn't mean I forego my usual rituals of shaving, brushing my teeth ,etc. As a matter of fact , have a clean shave at camp ( If you're a shaver) and you feel like a million bucks !

let me clarify that one, I camp with more than enough water to drink and coffee (7 days water for 4 days of camping) not to shave with.
So to me its limited for what I am willing to do with it. by using conditioner,
you don't tap into that reserve.

dignity loss only if you display it to everyone. With a little thought, A little of duct tape hides the label quite nicely. write "scottish thistle shave lotion for the beard" on the tape, "spruce needles shave cream", "porcupine quills shaving gel" the terms are endless with a little bit of thinking behind it.

I'll be honest, that's a lot of work to keep your wife happy. I hope it's worth it. Seems kind of excessive.
Are you making her shave on these long camping trips...

Some people do not like too shave unless they have to, others cannot stand a beard.
I have found Ivory soap can be lathered up well enough with cold water and a good razor too shave with .

Always wondered why the military has such a hard on for shaving. Human faces that reflect light can be seen for a couple miles. Seems counterproductive.

As for camping, if the wife/girlfriend complains about your beard, simply tell her that you will shave every day if she also shaves her (fill in the blank) every day. Ends that argument pretty quick.

Its a good tip but if im camping with now hot water the chances that im taking hair conditioner is slim, too cold to do the hair twice lol. I heat up about 4 cups of water in a pot and use that

I just tell her it gets soft and comfy after 3 days! About 20 years ago I lived in a truck for 4 years, and discovered that shampoo works better than conditioner. Plus it's a lot cheaper than "shaving cream". LOL
I ran heavy equipment on frac jobs for a few years, and if anyone showed up unshaven, the boss handed him a razor and had him go at it dry. Emergency oxygen mask fitment thing again.

I keep Shaving Oil in my travel kit, Little glass jar about the size of a chapstick.
I once shaved with bacon fat in camp.

the military supplies very expensive chemical/gas masks , those unwilling to shave become body bag fodder , then their family gets angry at the military ,,,

I reason the military has just a hard on for shaving, is for the gas mask.
a clean shaven face equals a tight seal for the gas mask so no gases can get through. If you have a beard the hairs will prevent a tight seal.

we use camo paint on our faces so we break up the features, our faces can't be seen.

Beside uniformity, as my hair grows paler it's getting shinier too. Might be fine for snow camo, but not so much in brush/pasture.

I can usually deal with the beard and facial hair for a few extra days out in the sticks - but I have to shave my neck and under the chin. A little stubble there drives me nuts.

I have used soap and water in a pinch - and it worked just fine.

I Russian military the idea was that gas mask fits better on a shaved face, but then if you had disfiguring scars beard was allowed
Takes half a cup to shave and 2 minutes to heat water up - not an issue for me. If it's freezing, or water is in a short supply or it's freezing - chances are my wife is home and won't care if I shave or not

This was kinda what I was thinking. Granted it's been a few years since I've shaved, but typically most people camp near a water source, either backcountry camping, or glamping. Even back country camping, how hard is it to fill a small pot and throw it on the jetboil for a couple minutes? Voila, enough warm water to shave with
