Chesteremere is starting to open up. In spots the ice has melted about 20' from the shore but this is not a great indicator of what its like further east.

I would like to know as well. I can't wait for Crawling valley to clear up. Bought a new boat this year and I'm itching to get it out. Anyone know if there is any open water around Calgary? Anywhere?

I live in Brooks. Yesterday walked around the pond by highway one and it only had 6-8 feet of water around the edge. After seeing this I didn't even want to waste my gas going out to Newell. My guess is another 10 days like today for sure.

Some of the lakes are still pretty frozen but how are all the canals that connect all the lakes? I know that there are canals connecting to Crawling Valley, Newell, Travers, Little Bow, Badger and McGregor. Are the canals thawed yet?

the canals are drained in the fall, and start running again usually later in spring. The water you see in some of them now is from snowmelt and farm fields being pumped out.

Are they drained to the point that one could wander around and pick up lost lures that got snagged the year before? I lost a bunch in a couple canals. At least $100 worth. haha
