Default Sylvan Lake

I "think" were good to go on Sylvan (near shore anyways), there has been quite a few sleds and the odd dumby with a truck out there. Goin to drill a few holes tomorrow on foot to check the ice. There was still a huge flock of geese on open water about a week ago so I don't think I will be going out too far too fast!!!

Yup I'm gettin the bug big time.. Sometimes I almost think I like hard water as much as open water,, What the hecks wrong with me...

Can't wait to hit Blacket and Kinnard over the holidays hopefully the weather is decent as its a bit of a quad ride in... Beaver is also one of my favorites a guy is generally guaranteed supper anyways,, might have to oh god I hate to say it but a guy might have to keep a Pike,, its o.k as long as there isn't anyone on the ice to see you.. And hopefully later on this winter we will find the time to head onto some of our lesser known but great little lakes like Big Chief or Dabbs, they are some unbelievable Perch lakes... And oh yah got to try and hit Siebert as well hit the hog wallys there last spring and Pike like your'e leg.. Well best of luck to you guys this winter and keep safe out there guys and gals..

Lets here of some other hot winter spots...

Good luck up there Walleyes. I will be spending a decent amount of time up there myself. I'll keep you posted on how things go as the season progresses.

Cheers!

Sylvan Lake & tributaries & outlet
Apr. 1 to May 17 and Nov. 1 to Dec. 10 – CLOSED
May 18 to Oct. 31 and Dec. 11 to Mar. 31 – Walleye limit 0; Pike limit 3 over 63 cm; Perch limit 5; Lake Whitefish limit 5; Burbot limit

Good call there! I would have checked the regulations before doing any fishing, haven't looked at the fishing book lately, got all tied up with the hunting one.

Also, just wondering if you can set up your ice shack on the lake prior to the season opening?

We've had good luck with small shiney spoons with maggots. Spoon length should be less than 1 1/2". Red & white, yellow & red five of diamonds, silver, gold, they all seem to work. Small jigs work fine also.

Calvin,, you could try Lawrence lake or the Buck lakes are not that far either.. you have Island, Gull & west Baptiste I beleive all these lakes hold Pike and Perch..

And yes they are great table fair one of the finest eating fish bar none... The lures roebag gave you to try should work well. Once I catch one I like to add an eye to my lure with the maggot or meal worm.. They are tuff and well they smell fishy seems to work well for me..

Try and find some cover and structure like weeds in a bay or on a point.. When you come to a new spot start drilling holes in a straight line from shore out watch don't get to close you may run your auger in the ground.. But you do want to fish in water any wheres from 5' to 15' of water you never know where they will be hanging out.. In most cases 8' - 12' of water are the best best.. Good luck and let us know how you make out...

Default Ice Thickness

Went out to lake Isle last week-end and about 100 yards off shore I found 7- 8 inches of ice and not much snow so it won't be long
