Default Pigeon Lake Ice Report

Fished Mulhurst bay this morning. Ice is a very solid 6-8 inches. Someone has even been driving on with a Ranger sized pickup. It is going to be a good ice year....maybe too good. Might have to think about an auger extension for later year fishing.

I got to watch a lot of whites swimming around. I think they were actually laughing at me. Broke down after a bit and dropped a jig and minnow - lost 1 and landed 2 walleye - normal Pigeon sized.

For all those out there that think the summer kill of whites had any major impact, think again. There are plenty.

Did any whites take a shot at the hook or were they just swimming around what were you using?

None took a shot at the hook. Swimming around would be too strong a word...more like swimming by. The only one that took an interest was when I tossed a meal worm in and as it was falling one of the whites appeared to be half interested but turned away. I'm a whitefish newbie. Had some luck late last year but they do seem more willing in Mar/Apr. Any tips for a whitie newb?

Best thing I have found for whites in Pigeon Lake is probably a red and yellow wire worm with a maggot about a foot off the bottom with very little movement they spook very easily in pigeon .May be a little early they should be starting to spawn so they may not be hungry yet.

Your right NDN. I'm just getting out of hunting mode and haven't had a chance to check into any fishing stuff. Thanks for pointing out the Gull opener.

Was out on Mulhurst this morning...about 9 inches of ice and pretty solid. One shack is already out on the ice, and I saw someone drive on with a jeep! Don't think I would've driven on today, but, his vehicle I guess. Fishing was slow, saw a few whites but couldn't get one on a wire worm or a wetaskiwin. Ended getting a couple eye's and calling it a day, started getting windy. Good luck to all.
