Default Wild pigs

Has anyone seen or shot any wild pigs lately? Was looking on the province sightings map but, doesn’t look like anyone uses it anymore.

A group of my friends went chasin elk near Barrhead and shot 6 pigs. A big momma I saw last year and 5 piglets. They look like a barn pig with long fur haha.

Default pigs

There re pigs in the province but no one will tell you where they are LOL I don't think there is a bounty on them anymore so the map is not updated. They are mostly nocturnal and you would have to ambush them if you can find where they are bedding

Yea. It is because there are pigs but not in the numbers there are in the USA. We have issues and we see sign but most of these pigs are nocturnal. Now if we could be like many other countries and allow hunting pigs and predators at night, then I bet we could eradicate the pigs here. But then the argument gets going that we will have poachers! Well that argument is valid only to a certain extent. I do not want to dive too deep otherwise I will get banned!!!!

Yea. My uncle and cousin shot two last year by smoky lake. SOme old farmer had a bait stand with corn and they shot them both at about 150lb each. I have a pic of the tusks on my old phone but they were about 3 inches.

A couple of good hounds with some training could make it a bit easier.... doesn’t sound like there are enough numbers to really be concered about it at the moment. It would be cool to get one though!

They made sausages and gulasz with it and some roasts. The meat in itself is good but they don't know how to make sausage haha! They double smoked it and made it too lean so it was not the best. It tasted like lean pork but was red meat, unlike pork which is a creamy pink. No taste of "liver" as people claim that wild game tastes gamey. I would trim most of the fat off and treat it like deer though. But when I was making sausages last week from deer, I didnt get rid of any silverskin or fat and everyone loved my sausage. They didn't even know it is deer so I guess depends on what you do with the meat.

Default Pigs

I have shot a couple over the years. One that I shot was a boar around 300 lbs that was not good tasting. They others were in the 150 lb range and tasted really good. Like someone else said it is really dark meat compared to domesticated pig. Shoot every wild boar you see they can reproduce at an exponential rate .....
