Default Would you put new line on a new set up?

I bought a couple Ice fishing set ups on clearance from Cabelas, (I think around $10-$20)
Should I replace the line with something I know is quality?
What do you guys do?

I always replace any unknown line with a quality braid line like PowerPro. Most of the stock lines you get on those pre spooled reels are cheap 10 lbs mono of unknown age. New line is not that expensive and there is no sense loosing the fish of lifetime over a few dollars.

The last rod I bought at Cabelas had line that resembled a slinky more than fishing line.
I have since taken up replacing line annually. Lines cheap, hate for that to be the reason you loose the big one.

There's enough stories about "the one that got away" out there already, no need to add to that long list. I always change the line to something I know and trust.

I would probably buy new line and a new reel lol.

I say this because most of the cheap combos that come with line imo aren't worth owning(can't expect much considering the price though).

As for the line, try to break it. That will tell you if it is decent enough.

I always replace the line. I can't imagine that they come from the factory spooled with anything good. I'd much rather spend the few extra bucks rather than risk having the line break when I have a decent fish on.

If fishing line is so cheap, why would a manufacturer put cheap line on a reel?

Absolute must do sir! And in saying that depending on the rod/reel and ehat you are planning on fishing for i am assuming that you have never used a “superline” like fireline etc.... you should give that a shot if the set up is more dor pike/walleye. If its trout go with a fluorocarbon....

Good luck
