Hoping to head up to Utikama. How are ice conditions. Can we drive on? Quad? Walk? Any assistance would be great dont want to waste a trip with the kids. Thanks for your time

Same here. I'm planning to go up Saturday. I have a 4x4 with Toyo Open Country M/T's. Is that what it's going to take to get on this lake?

I'm going to use my atv now as the edge is kind of soft. I can get on with the truck at 86 but feel much safer with the atv I have been fishing there for the last 30 + years and it is still good fishing was there on Saturday caught our limit in no time.

Thumbs up

Try km 86 once on the lake head south about 3km's fish the east shore about 500 to 800 meters from shore should get you in 6 to 8 feet of water .Use a jig head with a flash blade or a rattle head & unthawed minnow just off the bottom. For the Pike a rattle Rap or flashy spoon with sent sprayed on be aggressive with both and pause .
Hope this helps you.
I'm going tomorrow .

I did not get any perch. I was talking to the fish cops and they said there were next to no perch left in the lake. They have not come across anyone that has got one in a long time.

Ya, and if they dont do anything to control the over-populated pike problem, there won't be any perch in the future either. I caught a small pike about 2 weeks ago and when i went to unhook him there was a 4 inch perch in his mouth.

We were out yesterday. The fishing was real slow. The road at km86 is dry right to the lake. We used the quad but saw at least 6 trucks on the ice.

Starting to plan my hard water season.
Generally speeking, What date can you usually start driving on Utikama? ( normal year ) Havn't been there in over 20 years and want to try it once this year. Would early January be safe? I preferr at least 12" of ice, more the better.

The last two years I have been there early January and there was 12" +. Probably a fairly safe bet.
