I have a year old stealth stx 2 horse with an 8 inch...wasn't overly impressed with mine last year, but it worked...this year i went to synthetic oil and it is freaking amazing!! starts on 2-3 pulles no matter how cold and just burns threw the ice...just a thought?

I had the whining as well, went away, i think its was just a break in deal, doesn't do it know, but did when I just bought it, and at the first of the season..drilled about 30 holes today like nothing...i was having more fun drilling holes then fishing!

I bought a Jiffy STX 8 inch, 3 hp. Awesome. Go with synthetic. I have had it just over 3 weeks, and been out 4 times and smashed just over 100 holes. Works awesome, no problems.

I also bought the 3500 stx 10 inch auger.

Mine, however, is amazing!!! a real tank!!!

That's too bad about your auger. I found that when i got it, about 2 weeks ago, it wouldn't cut the ice fast enough, though now that i've used it on numerous trips it cuts through the ice like a warm knife through butter.

good luck.

Try a Husqvarna! Twice the price and twice the auger.
