Default pigeon white fish

was out yesterday trying to catch some whites in a spot that used to be loaded with whites at this time of year , never seen a whitefish at all , did get some walleye as a by catch . and some skinny pike .
is the population that low now or have they changed there location ?
the area we were fishing was good 25 years ago .

I imagine with the cold weather the lake is turning over & the Whites are in pre-spawn which makes them a bit unpredictable as well difficult to catch.

It sure is chilly with the North wind out here today, last place I would want to be is on the open water.
