I used a sucker once that was about 2lbs when I fished the French River in Ontario. I figured only a huge pike or musky would hit it. I rigged it up with 2 large trebles, crippled it and cast it right between a huge weed bed and sand bar.I ended up getting a hit and figured I was in for a huge fight. Caught a pike that was about 3lbs LOL!

I pretty much only use baits that are 6+ inches with most between 8-11 inches normally the biggest smelts I can grab, sardines herring or mackeral for pike. It has served me reasonably to catch big pike although there are still a number of small pike that like a big meal so you still catch some of the smaller ones.

on the west coast out in the boat, i watched one of my dads buddies get a fairly decent sized chinook, about 15 -20 lbs or so. a bunch of similar sized ones jumping all over. and then wham.....and nothing? he thought he lost it, and then we realized why they were jumping, when all he reeled up was the head and part of the body, and seen the sea lion having a great dinner about 20m away, he was so ****ed too, slammed his rod down in the boat, and yellin and swearin, while we were all laughing at him
