In my life I have had:

1 CBR AWESOME DOG
1 IRISH SETTER GREAT DOG BUT QUIRKY
1 GSP
1 YELLOW LAB WONDERFUL FRIEND AND NEVER LET ME DOWN

My new dog after two years without one is Dakota a Brittany Spaniel he comes from great blood lines and is the best hunter I have owned I have no regrets on my choice at all. I know he will never lug a goose in 300 hundred yards like my Lab could but he does all else better and is a great family friend with a great temperment. He has more abilty to reason than any dog I have ever owned which makes for a lot of mixed emotion on occasion lol.

That all said enjoy what ever dog you get as I am sure you will

Yes. Greatflushing dog and retyriever about the size of a Field Springer and there is some breeders in MT. They are used by a couple of guides I have meet. I don't see the advantage they have over a Springer though....uphood1...

Hey rope, if you plan on continuing the waterfowling it will be tough to go to a different breed (I'm not trying to stir the pot, but once you have a cbr and have successfully trained them there is nothing like em). If it's the size that you're worried about, as they seem to be getting bred bigger and bigger, find a breeder who is trying to maintain the original breed standard, there is no need for the 100lb beasts that we're seeing today to break the ice and keep warm, the 65lb males can get it donw just as well and last longer in the upland.

That being said Boykin's were bred as the 'smaller duck dog' that has the will of a cbr but also has spaniel so they are more effective in the upland. They also have cbr's as a founding breed so the similarities will be there. Like any dogs you'll have to do leg work to find a kennel that hunts them to ensure a good companion in the field. Pm me if you'd like some names of kennels for either breeds and I can track down some for you.
