Not an archer here. Educate me please. How would that picture indicate a well-tuned bow? Thanks.

When an arrow is not properly tuned you can still hit a target as fletching straightens out the arrow flight.
In this case when shooting through paper, when an arrow makes a "bullet hole" or exact hole an arrow would suggests that the arrow is flying true and "in tune" if it was out of tune the paper wouldn't look so clean and would have a tear off to a certain direction depending on what and how your bow is out of tune.

Why you ask? Typically 1 - 10 yards for paper tuning.

If I was Robin Hood I'd be spot shooting to save on arrows.
Especially at less than 10 yards (with broadheads as well) oh yea.
I can't recall for sure but isn't Robin Hood the same dude that was
found stalking the woods, robing from the rich and giving to the poor,
with a green hat and tights ?

Examples for reference. A tuned bow/arrow will cast the arrow in a fashion where the fletching perfectly follows the point. If the fletching is not perfectly following the the point, a tear will result.

Do what most archery shops do if it doesn't make a bullet hole - back up until it does. Charge customer $150 for paper tuning - give them the paper and call it a day.

..And with the tears C&B are very easy ..simply nock point adjustment up or down...E&F are even not that bad ..usually arrow spine issue..can be solved with bow poundage or rest movement...what you dont want to see is G...if its G it could be a long day...could be a sign of clearance, nock point, arrow spine, bow grip/follow thru or a cobination of all..list goes on even issues that are not the shooters fault such as limb warp, cam cuping idler lean etc... this one can drive you nuts without help...

Ya thats just wrong...you can have an 1 1/2 left tear..back up and around ten yards it will be perfect...but back up several more yards and you will now have a 1 1/2 RIGHT tear...and so on as one backs up...
That is why we paper tune closer, to see what the arrow is doing as it leaves the bow...

lol ....No when we "paper train" our bow...just for the people that dont know paper tuning... we try to keep arrows well spaced out so we can read the tear properly..

That's what's cool about Neil.
Neil is real.
He posts a topic that is based on facts and adds a bit of humor in
in it to help take away from the details of it all.
So we all can learn and understand.
He's passing the art on.
In a way Fred Bear did the same, a long time ago.
