I always check social media when hiring...
Maybe NDP could have done the same and kept agg off of their face!...
A couple of times...

No, not necessarily. I'm just saying that the poor first impression sure doesn't help them. A well-tailored resume is important and that's why writing one correctly was emphasized in high schools in past years.
If the first impression is a poor resume, then it's a bad start, in my books... unless I'm desperate for an employee.

Lots of companies are lazy and too cheap to staff HR properly these days so they put the applications online then dump the hiring responsibility on who ever has free time at the outfit.
Lots of entitlement has been spawned from the old boom mentality. Peope labouring were and probably still are making 65k to 100k+ with high school or less. Showing up late for work, playing on phones, abusing sick leave etc.
All that said i would venture a guess that kijiji is probably a last ditch attempt to find employment.

My take on it is if you can't even spend the time to spell check and maybe look up correct grammar for what is essentially a resume you are not taking it very seriously.

Ohh those people, psychologist, psychiatrist, investigator, human lie detector rolled into one people. If you will not look them in the eyes you are lying. When you are fidgeting you nervous and hiding something. If you will not answer according to their question patterns you are not fit for the job, which are basically posted in the web together with their correct answer. If you will not give them any reference you must be bad employee on your last job, who in the hell would provide a reference who will destroy him. Yup those people.
Previous job I was interviewed directly by the supervisor and basically quiz me regarding the job itself. He even went further and conduct an actual knowledge test on the software and equipment. He then offer more than what is the original start up rate.

I agree with the OP. The issue isn't necessarily that they put an ad on kijiji looking for a job, but more so the way they wrote their ad. Years ago when I worked at a gas station we would have people come in wearing ripped jogging pants and a cigarette hanging out of their mouth with a resume written on a napkin and ask if we were hiring. When I'd say "No, we aren't hiring", they'd say "Well, can you sign this sheet saying I applied here?". They never had any intentions of actually working at the gas station, just needed to have proof they were applying in order to keep their checks coming in. I look at the posters of these ads the same way. They aren't 'actually' looking for a job, just posting an ad to say that they're looking. Not all ads are like this, but yes, some are. I also see lots of ads looking for a 'free couch' when there are lots of ads for 'free couch to give away'. But, that's a whole other rant......

Yup, as mentioned before I don't think it's where they posted, but the lack of proper writing skills.
This is something that genuinely gets my shorts knotted.
I have no problem taking people up on their poor language skills, including all the texting shortcuts that are so common nowadays.
Lots of people say 'let it go - judge what they are saying, not how they say it'.
My response is twofold.
If you don't have the time to construct a proper sentence...why the heck would you think I have time to read what you are trying to say?
As well, do you want the pilot of your Boeing 787...or your Dr. having the attitude that it's not important that they write or speak properly?
Anyhoo...as to the whole social media thing.
Here's how stupid some of these 'social media savvy' people can be. We had an employee (a retail environment in a busy mall) who, on a whim decided it would be a smart thing to let all his friends on FB know how busy they had been that day. Posted that he was the only one in the store...AND INCLUDED A PIC OF THE TILL WITH ALL THE MONEY IN IT.
Luckily another staff member who received the post let us know...basically the person was posting 'here I am all alone with a till full of cash...come rob me'.
Unbelievable!!

I know what the Op is talking about I've been hiring people in the construction industry for 10 yrs now and yea.... they are getting more and more lazy with their attempts for applying for jobs, I've saved some of the most unbelievable ones over the years. Best one went like this, hey I watched a video on framing last night on YouTube and I'm confident I have a handle on it. Should have it mastered in about a month supposing your a good teacher. I'm only looking for $25/hr to start and also I'll need to get picked up until I can afford to buy a vehicle and get a license. So there's really no down side for you. ..... lmao
