Bows
I'm a bit more accurate with a recurve, but my longbow is cooler!

I like both. However, longbow is easier to handle on the ground. Recurves are better for tree stand applications.

tough one.
I chose longbow but it's not black and white. I love both.
Longbows from my experience are quieter, easier to tune, lighter to carry in your hand and a tad more difficult to shoot.
Recurves are a little more forgiving of mistakes you make (which can be a downside if you are new to trad) and more maneuverable (the short ones).

My vote is for the long bow. If you are going to go traditional go all the way! Mine is a 64" 55lbs made buy quarter moon.

Longbow
Gotta Go with the longbow
Started with training wheels then moved to the recurve and now shoot a Bow River Whitetailer longbow. The kids shoot Mad Dog PUP longbows.
I find the long bow straight grip more comfortable to shoot.

It is called a Micmac Neil, there is another version very similar, with a smaller back bow called a Penobscot. both of these styles have adjustable draw weight by twisting the strings on the back bow. There is no let off on them. I have a Penobscot. They are typicaly very quiet to shoot, and give average performance for a self bow type.

Pete ...I know of the Penobscot, was going to order one just as a display for the shop...Love the look...looks harder to shoot and maintain than the longbow...

I think it is easier for a new shooter to learn on a recurve than it is a longbow.
I like the romance of a longbow, and the feeling of taking game with one.

especially if the shooter is familiar with a compound. the weight, the riser and grip on a recurve are usually closer to a compound.

Actualy Neil it shoots just the same as any other traditional bow. If the arrows are matched to the bow it is no diferent. With the back bow you can adjust draw weight and tiller by adding or removing twist from the short strings.
In the end it is just a self bow with a buddy on it's back.

I found over the years that it mattered not what I had on the limbs of my recurves, I more often than not got them tangled in weeds , twigs , and other crap to the point where I unstrung a couple in
"Cat-a-strophic fashion"!!
I have since shot basically long bows and flat bows for 20 years, but do have a few recurves still, just to drive me crazy occasionally!!

Shot with training wheels for one year, never took an animal went to recurve and then longbow. Been shooting cedar arrows and longbow since 86. Started out shooting 70#s and am now shooting a reasonable 64#s at 28".....
