Default First Day Out This Spring

We went out to Pigeon for a couple of hours, and our numbers produced 35 walleye, and a pike. It took a different presentation, but we used our usual jigs and frozen minnows. We were in 12 feet of water, and had fish within a couple of minutes, so we dropped anchor and never tried anywhere else.

Sounds like a fun day of fishing. Buddy of mine was fishing Sylvan this morning and caught a burbot while he was trolling. Hoping I can squeeze in a day or two week after next when I'm on days off. I just upgraded my boat with a pair of Lowrance HDS Carbon 9's, a set of Lithium batteries for the TM and a new 3 bank NOCO Genius charger. Anxious to put it all to the test.

Gotta Love those days because you know his day is coming. Take an early lead.

He didn't mention that he caught three before I even had the anchor out, and my rod put together. I look after the boat, so he always gets a head start. Then I tried jigging, which didn't produce a single bite, before I switched over to casting out and doing a very slow retrieve. Once I started the cast and slow retrieve, things evened out.

And even with your head start, I catch more some days.

You mean those days I take nap in your boat?

What can I say… she’s comfy.

Like fishing with my wife. I haven't even got the trolling motor started & she's casting. And insists on being underqualified to drive. lol

I have a fishing buddy just like you. I call him the Garden Gnome or Anchor Dork. Ptetty much front of the boat and sightseeing the days away. He hasn't spotted 1 reef in Northern Sask from the front of the boat that I didn't see 30 seconds before...from the tiller.

Likes to get the first cast off as we're entering prime bays too so I've started backing into them just to hear him whine.
