Default Transom Replacement

Anyone ever Use a synthetic for a Transom replacement? I was thinking of getting some 1x6 vinyl boards to replace a transome so I could have something that doesn't rot. Any one ever try this, or another plastic?

(Boat is a 14'aluminum W/30hp Merc.)

I would think plastic would have too much flex to make a good transom. I looked into it when I rebuilt the transom on my boat and it seemed that wood is just a better option because of rigidity.

You can waterproof wood with several coats of spar urethane OR you can fiberglass it.

Both options can be done relatively cheaply and will last a LONG time.

Tight lines.
