Default Hunting access on métis settlements

After reading another thread about métis hunting rights, I got thinking about something.

Do métis settlements have the right to restrict access to those of us that don't live on a settlement, nor are métis?

I noticed that a local métis settlement has restricted access to an area of land via means of a locked gate. This road access's crown land, after going through the settlement.

I don't want to start a war here, just wondering if this is legal.

Thanks everyone.
