Default Oilfield job hunting.

I've been without full time work since June. It sucks but i'm taking my licks like a lot of other unemployed people.
What is everyone using for job search websites?. I've browsed many company websites for jobs...i know many are filled from within first, i used to work for a large corporation and most jobs are dust offered in house.
Is it my poor ability to navigate the internet or are there not a lot of jobs out there anymore?

I work on the service side of drilling and there just isn’t any work out there for the majority of us. Went back today after 6 months of nothing, but it sounds like a small project. Probably done around Thanksgiving and off till again till Q1 2021.

How about abandonments? That area is growing.

Are the rumours true about the orphan well remediation work awarded to SNC Lavalin?

Not true. The OWA has a list of prime contractors. SNC is not on the list.

http://www.orphanwell.ca/contractors...e-contractors/

I don’t know how to link tweets but Sonya Savage debunked this too:

https://twitter.com/sonyasavage/stat...539952640?s=21

Was talking to a buddy yesterday that owns an environmental service company and sits on a few environmental boards. Supposedly the 1st round of money that was given was mainly for downhole abandonment not surface decommissioning and abandonment. That money comes out in the 2nd round. That money is due this winter but sites obviously can’t be cleaned up till next summer

Had an environmental company as well as a dry auger on a lease on my place doing some sampling last month. Was told it was being paid for with federal money.
Well was cemented, cut and capped 4ish years ago.

Some stuff like that’s getting done. I think he was saying, wellsites that have surface equipment (pumpjacks, shacks, etc...) and need to be reclaimed haven’t been given the money yet.

OWA has been doing stuff like this for years and still is. I was just on an OWA well two days ago. I work on probably 50-75 OWA wells per year. I've watched them haul out surface equipment...My side is the downhole side (Stuck pipe recovery, Remedial cementing, multi zone abandonments etc.)

There is money rolling out to do well abandonments and cut and cap work for companies right now. Not just the orphan wells.

100%. I’ve also worked with orphan wells a few times. I think the original question was about SNC getting all the OWA work which is false.

I kind of went on a tangent and was talking about the federal money. From my understanding, the money is given to help oil companies clean up wells before they are orphan wells. That 2nd round of money hasn’t been doled out yet. They round of money is more for the enviro side more than the downhole work. They screwed up and are giving the money out this winter. Rec work can’t happen till next season. But again this was relayed to me through a phone conversation and I may have misinterpreted what he was exactly meaning.

Sounds like you interpreted it correct to me. We are doing some work right now with it.

I get what you were saying now. Thanks for clarifying.

To OP. If service rigs are your thing try applying to some of those companies.

My background is enviro science. I do have experience with RecRem work but it’s not my favourite. I focused more on the drilling side and the downstream side.

Try downloading the LinkedIn app and create a LinkedIn profile I’m constantly getting job opening updates. It kind of takes your profile and links you to certain job postings. I haven’t had to use any of it yet as I have stayed somewhat busy on the drilling side of things.

Subscribe to the BOE Report and Rigzone. I found a job posting on BOE Report that eventually got my SIL a job. Not what he wanted but he is at least working. That being said yes job postings are scarce.

This is one that I use as well as indeed LinkedIn. It’s been pretty scarce for jobs in my area. If your looking to work in a specific area the province a person can miss jobs cause they post it in there home city. I have all my job alerts set for my area and a company posted it in Calgary but not locally. I don’t think this is common practice but i missed out on opportunity because of it.

Hello! First of all, you need to look for a job based on your trade. There are a lot of online platforms where people apply for jobs or get the information they need to be hired. When I started looking for a job, I found it quite difficult. I wasn't sure what the trades were and what to go for.

One way to legitimately bump up reply count is to dig up 2 years old threads and reply to them.
Trying to get access to the buy/sell section?
