Amazing fishery!!
I'm no fish biologist, so can anyone tell me why there is a zero limit for walleye on this body of water?

Because if they allowed you to kill "just one" Human Nature would take over and poof no more newby / grandchild / disabled folks / kids / just plane have fun folks fishery. The strings of wally going home would boggle the mind.

hi. pine coulee is an awesome place to guarantee the grandkids catch a
fish . no walleyes but you can get a decent sized pike or burbot under and beside the bridge to take home .

Pcr should have a 1 walleye limit... For kids... Its only a matter of time till the ridiculous amount of small wallys eat ALL the food ...

It's the same deal with wabamun...even if you were able to keep 1...the amount of anglers and fishing pressure would turn a trophy fishery into just another lake...

I also would have to disagree. The amount of people fishing there and you take into account 1 fish per person would equal a lot of fish. I say leave it be. A great place to get kids hooked (no pun intended) on fishing!

They're not perch, do a bit of research and you will find they won't .

The was a thread last year reporting some fry in the electro fishing, recrutment is the issue, without a forage base few will make it untill the stocked fish start to die off.

Walleye have been recorded to live for 30 years or more.
They do reproduce in pcr.

12-15" 10yr old walleyes, you can catch one every cast, if your using a pickeral rig you can catch doubles fairly often. They put them in before the lake established itself. F&W screwed up in that place. From what I understand is the fertile fish were delivered elsewhere and the triploid fish went to pcr basically the order got mixed up.
If they had a half decent food supply they wouldnt be stunted and you wouldnt be able to catch them on ANYTHING you throw out there hotdog chunks, shrimp, smelts, small bits of flagging tape, string, worms you name it if you can put it on a hook you will catch em with it.
PCR has great potential as a walleye fishery only problem is they need to start from scratch. Iv heard rumors they are going to net the lake this year so maybe thats what the plan is

Exactly.
There is no better place to take kids or first time anglers for a day of fishing. It's perfect and should be treasured for what it is.
I REALLY hope they leave well enough alone, there's plenty of other lakes to fish if you want the challenge of finding and catching bigger fish.

Seems like everyone catches fish there but me. LOL Need a little "Fishing for dummies" instruction here. So first time there this year fishing on south end I caught a bunch of fish and was thrilled. Couple ot trips since then to same place, nothing. Also spent a little time on the dock at the boat launch and came up empty as well. What is the best place for shore fishing and what should I be using? Gracias!

Head to the southwest corner, the one with the bathroom. Grab a pickeral rig and 3-400 small smelts. Launch that baby as far out as you can, By the time it hits bottom and you tighten the line up youll have a fish on the end of it

I guess you have never seen the line of boats a 1/4 mile long on a long weekend waiting to be launched. Don't believe me? There is another long weekend coming up. Check it yourself.
The lake would be fished out in a short time if any were kept.

I was told that the limit is zero because of high mercury content.
maybe it just convenient to tell people that so no one wants to take the fish.

Thats a bs story if iv ever heard one.... And im friends with hardcore fishermen lol. IF there were a mercury advisory it would be for all fish in the lake not just a certain species

There is an advisory for PCR, all new reservoirs have mercury issues for the first 20 years or so. I would say the 0 limit is there to protect the population until it is self sustaining.
All I would do with it at the moment is try and find a suitable forrage fish and get that established. And that is the issue, Perch are a weed, I don't think it is deep/cold enough for whitefish, rockies are part of the watershed but don't know if they would work.

Learn something new everyday, I didnt know they had advisories for them, must not be advertised the way they are for large river systems like the athabasca river. I dunno how true it is but iv heard its 60' deep, so should be plenty deep enough for whites They need to have a nongame species such as minnows and chubs in there for the predatory fish to eat.

It will balance out in time.
What's the rush?
In the mean time, excellent lake for Noob's and kids.

I can't seem to remember more than 35' ish on the sounder but I'll happily be wrong on that
And I have to agree that in the mean time we have a great kid's/fun fishery.
